I know I'm taking a chance here but I couldn't resist picking one of these up this weekend, a brand new C93 Sporter.

I've been wanting one of these since I first heard about them and after coming across one on Saturday at my local gun shop and after giving it a very critical examination I decided to take a chance and bring it home with me. The gun shop is giving me 30 days to try out the rifle and if there are any problems I can bring it back for a full refund. I figured it's worth a shot and if there are problems then I'll just return it and hopefully have better luck next time. They were asking $799 for it with two 40rd mags, a bit more than I was hoping they would be selling for but reasonable considering what some people are paying for them right now.

I'm optimistic about this gun however, everything seemed to check out fine when I examined it. Everything is welded on straight the bolt seems to be fine, the flash hider is mounted evenly and the fit and finish is quite good.

Once I put a few hundred rounds through it I'll post a range report. I know this gun is very new to the market so I'm really hoping I didn't jump on it too quick. However for those out there interested in this rifle I'll try and put together a thorough range report asap.

In the meantime here are some pics.....

Looks pretty solid. I've kind of had my eye on these for a little while. Can you take some shots of the bolt?

I'm interested in hearing more once you get out to the range, looks sweet.

I like your photography skills. Some guys make it look so easy.

Also curious to hear how you like your new rifle.

I'm not familiar - what's this rifle all about? Seems like a really good price for any HK, although they still hate us, I'm pretty sure.

It's a Century clone. Hopefully it outperforms it's makers reputation, it's a nice looking rifle.

Dude, nwilliams, where do you get the funding for all these new guns? A AUG, then a FS2k, UZI, now this...? It looks great BTW.

No wife or kids, no mortgage and no car payments:D I figure when I get married, have kids and a house buying expensive guns will be a thing of the past so I might as well spend the money now while I have it.

Oh and I try to live simply so I can afford to buy guns but I will admit though sometimes I have to break out the credit card to support my gun buying habits.

What's the word on spare mags?

This is something I'm investigating. My understanding is that the gun should be able to use HK33, HK43, HK53 and HK93 mags.

These mags seem to be pretty easy find but seem to range in price from $30 to $50.

Would it be possible to take close-up pictures of the area where the trunnion meets with the receiver rails that the bolt carrier ride on? This is just to the rear of the front handguard on both sides. Thanks.

As you can see bolt is not ground
Of course it's not ground...it's a bolt...and it's not sky either :D

I have heard bad tales of these guns...but with the warrantee...how can you go wrong? If you are not satisfied you got to play with a new toy, and if you are you got a new toy cheap. Sounds good to me. :)

Drunken monkeys?

Looks like just the gun to shoot Wolf (guaranteed to cycle every time). Just find a scope mount for it. Are these Turkish kits?

First Range report

I have taken it out to the range twice so far and put a couple hundred rounds through it. I like how the gun shoots, it's very comfortable and seems pretty accurate but I really want to put some glass on it to really test out it's accuracy.

The gun gave me mixed results. For starters it does not like Wolf Military Classic at all and will fte quite frequently with the stuff. The first time I took it out I brought with me 40 rounds of Wolf MC and 60 rounds of Silver Bear. I loaded up both mags one with 20 rounds of Wolf and the other with 20 rounds of Silver Bear. I started with the Wolf and after three shots I got an fte. I cleared and reloaded and got off another two or three and then another fte. This went on until the mag was empty, I think I had about six fte's.

Frustrated and disappointed I moved on the the mag of Silver Bear and it fired all 20 rounds without a hitch. I loaded up my remaining 20 rounds of Wolf and tried again with the same results, one fte after another with one or two ftf's this time.

I loaded up 20 more rounds of Silver Bear and had zero issues, this time swapping out the mag that I had used originally for the Wolf just to make sure it wasn't a mag issue. I then loaded my last twenty rounds of Silver Bear and again I had no issues.

I took the gun home and cleaned it thoroughly and then the next day I went back to the range with 20 rounds of Silver Bear, 20 rounds of Wolf and 100 rounds of Federal.

Again I had the same issue with the Wolf but I got through all of the Silver Bear and all of the Federal with zero malfunctions.

I don't know what it is about the Wolf that this gun just doesn't like but it feeds Silver Bear and Federal just fine. So far I've put 40 rounds of Wolf MC through it with at least a dozen fte's and few ftf's.

That said the gun does seem to shoot Silver Bear and Federal just fine. I've put 100 rounds of Federal through it with zero problems and 80 rounds of Silver Bear with no problems.

It's still too early to say if this gun is a winner, I think I need to put about 500 to 800 more rounds through it before I give this gun a final rating. I want to see how it functions with a few more brands of ammo. I really like the gun and if the only ammo it won't feed is Wolf then so be it, I can live with that.

Most guns do not like Wolf, so I am not surprised. The only exception in semi is an AK will usually do alright with Wolf. I am glad it did well with ammo that actually meets QC standards. In my experience most semi 5.56/.223 seem to like Lake City, Winchester White 5.56, Federal Am. Eagle, and Winchester White .223; in that order. Wolf is substandard and I would avoid it like the plague.

I see a lot of people say that but I haven't had any problems with CMMG ARs or Sig556

If your C93 is like mine the rear sight is welded on the receiver too far forward to mount an HK claw mount. It might be possible if you were to remove the rear sight drum but I'm still not sure as there is a little area that the mount rests in forward of the sight that might be out of place too much. I tried putting an el cheapo aluminum rail top mount (<$20 from AIM) on but the carry handle will have to be removed and i didn't feel like taking the gun back apart. You would have to remove a little bit of material from the rail mount for it to clear the drum but I think that is preferable to going without the drum.

As of this week I now have about 500 rounds through this gun and have found that the only ammo it really doesn't like is the Wolf Military Classic. It will actually cycle the Wolf 62gr (black box) ammo just fine. This gun is a tack driver with open sights at a up to a 100 yards I was making fist size groups from both standing and the bench. The recoils is very mild and it's an absolute pleasure to shoot.

So I decided that after the last time I took it out it was lacking one important thing, a scope. I decided to buy the complete scope kit from Cheaper than Dirt which included the Hensoldt Fero Z24 Sniper Scope and original mount, case and accessories. For under $400 I think it turned out to be a heck of a deal and when it arrived today I knew it was worth the money. The scope is fantastic, the glass is crystal clear, there is no rust and just very minor wear tot he finish. The case it came in is also in great shape and the mount is mint.

In under a minute I had the scope mounted on the gun and it fits like a glove. No modification was needed to make it fit and it clamped down nice and snug with no play at all back and forth or side to side.

Anyway I couldn't be happier with this scope and I am really beginning to fall in love with this rifle, for the money it was definitely worth it. I have yet to take the scope out and actually try it but I'm confident it will work out great. Once I get it out to the range and zeroed in I will update this thread with a more a range report and impressions.

What I really need now is a shorter mag and bipod to make this gun complete.

here are some new pics....

I stashed the real thing with it's old almost worn out HK91 brother, with that same scope, in my Oregon digs in 2000 when Calif. wanted me to register it as an AW. I visit there 3 to 4 times a year. My son lives there but doesn't have the safe combo! I also have the Military issue .22LR conversion kit that is waaaay kewl The HK 93 is my favorite AW BTW. I fool with 3 ARs I have registered in Kali, but prefer the 93 I shot from 87-97 quite a bit. It NEVER had one malfunction with the good American and SA ammo I fed it BTW!

Sure is purdy. I'm glad to hear that despite coming from Century, it actually works - so long as it's not Wolf ammo. Please photograph the bottom side of the bolt head.
