This is generational gun control, or, gun control by the back door, if you will. I'm certain that many of the people who object to eight-year-olds killing black bears realize perfectly well that if one can raise the age (and higher and higher) at which kids are introduced to guns and shooting sports, there will be fewer shooters and hunters.
There are plenty of us irascible sixty-somethings around now to write our representatives, join the NRA, and generally raise cain when the gun grabbers start up, but this approach is the surest and most final of all: in the end, we just fade away.....

Just because a girl is 8 years old doesn't mean she can't be trusted with a firearm. It just depends on the individual. I work with people in there 30's and 40's that I wouldn't trust them to be within ten feet of a gun.

I think the girl should be congratulated on such a fine acomplishment that any hunter would be proud off. It's also obvious that her parents should be proud.

Actually, I thought the article was well balanced -- pointing out that it is more of a city/country thing than anti-gun. It was amusing that some people thought that a child shooting a large animal like a bear was outrageous. Would they have been less offended if she'd started by shooting a rabbit or squirril?

Most of the anti- sentiment that the article seemed to express was the usual crap from those who are opposed to hunting period.
