I would never pull the trigger on some else's gun; I know for sure my CZ52 is not dry-fire recommended, but I don't know the do/don't dry fire status of all makes and models. Why haul off and pull the trigger on someone else's gun? That's rude and stupid IMNSHO.

"case for mandatory magazine disconnects"?
0) Drill should be (a) remove the magazine (b) clear the chamber (c) continue to show the gun the respect due a lethal weapon
1) disconnects seem to encourage amnesia about "is there a round in the chamber" which can be disasterous once a empty or loaded magazine is re-inserted. Back to 0).
2) can't retrofit tens of millions of handguns not designed with disconnects
3) not everyone is convinced magazine disconnect is a good idea

Reason if I ever hand a semi auto firearm to someone, I make sure magazine is dropped and action is locked open. Revolvers I make sure cylinder is swung open. When I receive a firearm, I always check to see if they are loaded even if I watched the person clear the firearm.

In any crowd you will have difficulty safely drawing and clearing a weapon.
The mentality of those who need to show their carry guns off or can't keep their hands off deserve whatever Ill befalls them, just feel bad for the bystanders that don't know they're to close to an idiot.

Just because he was a "vendor" selling guns doesn't mean he doesn't have oatmeal for brains.......:barf:

In our local gunshow that would automatically be a lifetime banishment.

I would just like to clarify my last post to say that I do NOT unholster my carry gun to let someone else handle.

What I meant was a situation where a friend or family member wanted to see a loaded weapon on a private range or in one of our homes.

If you work the gun show circuit for a few years you will see this kind of stuff so much that it won't even surprise you any more. People, in general, are incredibly stupid. The really amazing thing in my experience is that the noise level in most shows is SO LOUD that people have to yell at each other to be heard. Then a shot goes off - and the silence is instant and deafening........ you could suddenly hear the light ballasts buzzing overhead. Most of the dealers I knew kept a loaded handgun under the table (as I did). But we would NEVER EVER show it to ANYONE. I mean NEVER. I remember working a show in Decatur Ill. about 1992 where a crazy woman grabbed an AR from a table and ran off with it. She almost made it to the door.......... (no, she was not shot but she was in need of an ambulance before the cops got there.....) Do not mess with gun dealers.

When I worked at the LGS, I had a long time customer bring his loaded 9mm to my counter. Pointed it directly at me and started jacking with the slide, finger on the trigger, complaining that the round wouldn't eject..:what:

I used to feel it was a universal right to own firearms. After working there, I'm not so sure. The level of stupid I saw exceeded anything I could have imagined. This is the reason usually there are no loaded firearms allowed in gun shows. Do you REALLY want some of these chimps waiving around a loaded gun?

Long time ago, someone posted here "any time you handle a gun, you're buying a ticket for the lottery of accidental discharge". The odds probably are increased 10,000 times over if you're handling a loaded pistol.

After a few encounters like this, I ALWAYS clear a firearm any time I first pick it up. Even if I just saw someone else check it. That was the policy at our store. I don't care if I'm the 10th guy in line. I always check.

It is not unknown for someone to put a live round into a gun in a store or at a show.

Long time member of my sportsmans club thought he had loaded a snap cap in this trap gun in the club house. Done it hundreds of times over the years. Fired a trap load off of the concrete floor injuring 10 with 3 going to hospital. Any one of us could be involved in an irresponsible gun incident. Its a risk we take anytime we get together is groups.

Best justification for mandatory magazine disconnects I've heard this week.

Absolutely not. Don't make my firearm a worthless club because two people are idiots. You can't legislate safety. And you definitely can't fix stupid.

You don't hand someone the firearm you're using to protect yourself. I wish I could say I find it hard to believe people do this, but I don't. I'm all for discussing what I carry. But I'm not going to hand it to anyone.
