A gun similar to a glock but without the sharp grip angle?

I'm a Glock fan, through and through, but the S&W M&P series just feel great in my hand. I don't know what it is about the grip shape and angle, but they have one of the most comfortable grips I've ever held. The XD(m) also has a great grip.

as many have said there are many flavors of wonder 9s out there, I like the FNP-9 or the Steyr M9A1.

Get the M&P compact, buy an Apex striker block, (skip the sear for carry) then grab your dremel and cut off the beavertail.

The M&P trigger out of the box is wanting at best, with a little touch up it clobbers the Glock (I do most certainly respect the Glock
but the op said no Glocks).

I could live with the XD trigger in stock form and price may lead you in that direction. I do feel for cleaning and strip down the Smith is much simpler however.

Lots of choices, most of them good. Lucky for me I just won the European lottery AND a relative from an undisclosed country named me sole benefactor to a BIGGEST PAY estate! Who's more luckiest than I ? ; )

Apparently you learned on Glocks or just have a Glock wrist?

No, I actually learned on revolvers, then shot a variety of other handguns (mostly Berettas). I probably didn't picked up a Glock for the first time until five or ten years ago. The answer may lie in the fact that I've never shot as an everyday habit, and probably still shoot less than 1,000 rounds per year. As such, I don't think I've ever become accustomed to one style of handgun over another.

In a nutshell, I'm equally inept with just about any handgun.

Im sorry but anyone that tries to compare a sigma to a glock of = size and caliber, and says they take a sigma is out of their ever loving mind. How could you possibly choose a rip off of glock with a 10 lb heavier trigger pull, over the company that sued smith and wesson for copying them? dunno, im just feelin some glock hatin......dont be hatin.....dont do it.

I guess I'm out of my mind. I carry a Sigma. The G-19 stays in the safe.

I can't really say I like one better than the other, but I choose to carry the Sigma. Other than the trigger, which isn't that big a deal, I don't see much difference in them. I don't care two hoots in a windstorm about the lawsuit. I don't own stock in either company.

I'm also another one who doesn't understand all the hoopla about the "feel" of a handgun. Big deal. A Glock feels like a Glock. A 1911 feels like a 1911. A single action revolver feels like a single action revolver. Just different, that's all.

I like Glocks very much, but I agree that the grip angle does seem to be a problem for some folks.

Second best IMO is the Springfield Armory XD line.

Funny how people are different. I'm used to a 1911 and no problem with a Glock and S&W M&P. I don't know but i need to exert more effort with XDs to shoot them well. Looks like you'll not go wrong with these 3 wonder polymers. Glock, S&W M&P, Springfiled XDm. But then again there are a lot more wepons around. I'm just not a fan of DA/SA weapons.

it's called a springfied xd. as a bonus, it has a much nicer trigger than a glock.
Thats your opinion, I think its flat out wrong though.

The XD is an awesome gun, especialy if you want something thats very similar to a glock, but not a glock.

The Glock and 1911 share the same grip angle, so its not the angle that makes the Glock uncomfortable. 1911s have a football shaped grip, where as the glock is an oval shape, filling out your hand more. If it wasn't for the hump at the back of the Glock frame, or the fatness, it would be more comfy for some of us. A G36 feels darn good to me, however!

You nailed it......My Glock 17 and my 1911's have exactly the same identical grip angle. A little measuring will show that. Most folks that have problems with the Glock ergo's just throw out the "Grip Angle" as the reason, when it is in all liklihood the exagerated heel of the grip that leads them to believe it is the grip angle.

The new Gen 4 with no grip inserts addresses this pretty well. I would never have owned a Glock previous to the Gen 4 because the ergo's did not suit me. My new Gen 4 points as naturally as any pistol I have ever fired.

I've looked extensively at and shot a number of times both the M&P and the XD/XDm and can honestly say I thoroughly enjoy them both. Both good guns, reliable, accurate for the purpose. I like the XD trigger better though. I work in Firearms at Gander Mtn and everyone in the dept consistently recommends the XDs. Gunsmith rarely if ever has them come back, and just about any model of gun is going to have it's lemons anyway. I don't know that I would or even could say that Glocks/M&Ps/XDs are better than any of the others; I think at that point it comes down to personal preference regarding feel and features. Bottom line I prefer the XD, but you might find differently. Take a look at both.

And I feel obligated to stick up for the poor Sigma. I own a Sigma 40, and let me say first and foremost that the trigger is rough. It was my first pistol and the price was right, so I got it. Aside from the trigger though there really isn't anything wrong with the gun, based on personal experience. It certainly isn't a fancy or pretty gun... in fact it's probably one of the most basic handguns like it from a major manufacturer. But it works - or at least mine does, I can't speak for others. I've put about 3500-4000 rounds through mine and the one and only time it failed to cycle was when my idiot friend ran a 9 through it. It definitely isn't a target gun but anybody claiming it is must be one heck of a blind supporter of the thing. I share my experience with mine honestly and not as someone claiming a particular gun is the greatest simply because they own one. It's not the best gun in the world by any means... but it isn't really meant to be.

Boomm, what are you leaning toward, or have decided on? If I were in your shoes I would shoot the G19 and some of the others, chances are the G19 will out shoot the others, even with the funny grip angle. I was a Glock skeptic until I shot a G17 in Nov 08, now I know how well they shoot, the good out ways the bad by a long way.

S$W Sigma

Simple, Glock said it some years back. S&W Sigma. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3197/is_n6_v42/ai_19767928/

If you Glock boys flame me, don't forget to flame Glock. The Glocks are a great weapon. I'm considering a 30 SF. I will however put in a an 8.5 lb. "NYPD trigger". "Glock Leg" is no joke and I carry appendix so it's even worse! I'm waiting to fondle the S&W 40 SD and also the 30 SF before deciding. Ballistics on the 40 are very close to the 45. (96% to 94% one stop shot)

If neither impress the hell outta me I'll get another Sigma in 40. I've had my 9VE almost three years and 1700 rounds. Got a very good trigger after some polishing. My wife also EDC's a 9VE and loves shooting it.

"Glock Leg" is no joke

And a heavier trigger pull is not an adequate substitute for safe gun handling. If you exercise proper gun handling then you will be fine. If you do not, then a heavier trigger or any other safety feature doesn't really matter. Thousands upon thousands of people carry loaded Glocks day in and day out and do not shoot themselves. The careless and stupid have managed to shoot themselves with all manner of weapons.

I don't have any real problems with Glock ergonomics myself, but the M&P does "correct" some of the slightly annoying aspects, including grip angle, so that's what I went with and would recommend to others. The XD is a fine gun, too, but I'm not so keen on grip safeties, personally. I'm not crazy about the trigger safeties on Glocks and XDs, either, and prefer the M&P's and Sigma's hinged-trigger analogue. It's a matter of personal preference, but I guess for some reason I generally don't like moving things coming between the gun and me. :scrutiny:

I don't believe anyone mentioned a glock with a modified frame. A glock with a grip reduction, undercut trigger guard and stippling job is a very fine weapon.

I'll chime in to agree with those suggesting the Steyr. It suffered from poor marketing but is an incredible pistol. The M9A1 compares very favorably with the G19 IMHO.

You could also look at the CZ Line, Rami comes in polymer. The P-07 is a very comfortable polymer 9.

I have shot Glock's and they are very reliable firearms. In terms of ergonomics I prefer the grip of the S&W99 or S&W M&P line - it fits my hand much better `than the slab sided Glocks.

Well guys, I think I'm probably going to just get the G19 and try to get used to that dump hump on the back of the grip. I really like the weapon, and after learning its not really the grip angle, just the hump on the back, I think I'm going to get it and just give it a shot. Its not too expensive so if I just can't get used to it, I can sell it or or have a safe queen.

The G19 is a great gun. If I could only own one 9mm pistol there is a good chance that it would be a G19.

After you handle it a lot, put in some hours training and do some shooting you may not mind the hump at all. You could also look into a grip reduction

I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and suggest the XD. Mine's been very reliable in 9mm. I had to replace a trigger spring somewhere around 15k rounds.
