I'm not surprised that the positive use of guns is underreported.
The anti-gun organizations likely record an active shooter stopped by a legally armed citizen as a death by gun violence.
Anymore, I dont have any faith in anything the government, its agencies, and its news outlets spew forth these days, and would consider any of it dubious at best.
I think its safe to say, that anything you see or hear, or read, is likely misleading, in some direction.
I think neither the FBI’s not Lott’s numbers can be relied upon. We do not whether the criteria use by both were the same. Since data was garnered from news reports it relies on the accuracy of the particular reporter/writer and the details fed to the media by local authorizes. As far a I am concerned that makes all the data equivalent to hearsay — we now what was said but is not firsthand knowledge. While I suspect Lott’s data is better than the FBI data, I would not quote it a definite.
