I think I got bitten... again... and I want a 1911. I was am REALLY interested in the Kimber Pro Carry II handgun and I was wondering...

If I would happen to trade my G19 towards one how much would it cost me on top of that? Would you trade a G19 towards a Kimber? If I did try to get a Pro Carry II is there anything I would need other than ammo? Are they finicky? I guess I am just wondering if I should or not... I REALLY like 1911 styles haha.

I probably won't get rid of my Glock but I am thinking about trying to get a Kimber.

On trade you might get 250 for your G19, you would be better off to try and sell it.

I might if I go that route. It still looks brand new. I would rather keep it I am just getting curious over the Kimber again. I keep coming back to anything 1911ish. If it got really bad I figure I would sell the Glock but I want to avoid something that drastic haha.

I like my Kimber, but be aware, they have more MIM parts than most, and for an expensive gun that's not right.

The Kimber Pro Carry II is a nice weapon. It conceals easily and is a whole lot more accurate than my old eyes and shaky hands can shoot. I am well pleased with mine, but they are fairly expensive.

Kimbers aren't all that expensive. At least, not when you factor in all of the extras you are getting, it really ends up being an economical gun. (night sights, slide to frame fit, match barrel, skeleton trigger and hammers, forged frame and slide, etc...)

I have one, and she's been great. I recommend them to anybody curious to get into 1911's. One thing though, if you truly get 1911 fever, she definitly won't be your last.:D

My Kimber Custom II was the most accurate handgun I've ever owned...sadly I sold it at a loss after 2 trips to the factory failed to make it reliable even with ball ammo. Just my personal experience, for what it's worth, your mileage may vary.

On an unrelated note....

My Glock 17 has over 12,000 trouble free rounds through it and my CZ-75 has over 5,000 rounds through it.

Do you have any other handguns besides the Glock???

No I don't. That is why I am not really wanting to sell it if I can avoid it. I want a 1911 but they don't seem quite as reliable as my G19. I guess I am more interested in getting the Kimber rather than just selling/trading the Glock for it. I love my Glock but it isn't very "pretty". Is there a more reliable, nice looking 1911 than a Kimber? I want a 4-4.25" barrel preferably.

I think Bud's has Pro Carry IIs for under $800. That really isn't horrible.

I just bought my first Kimber, a Tactical Entry II model and I hope I don't regret it. I've had a SIG P220 since '92 and have put somewhere around 10,000 rounds through it, 99.9% of which have been SWC reloads and I haven't had a single issue, not one, NADA!! I've been a diehard SIG fan for years due to their ergonomics, accuracy and reliability but I figured it was about time that I get a 1911. The problem is that I've been spoiled by the SIGs that I own and I expect 100% reliability, anything less is unacceptable. Let's be honest, a semi-auto pistol doesn't have to do much except strip a round off the magazine, ignite the primer, stabilize the bullet, eject the fired case and chamber another round ... how hard is that to get right?

:)

Hippie, I'd keep the Glock and save up for the 1911 if I were you. Especially if you don't have any other means of home defense like a shotgun or revolver kept in reserve.

I got burned by Kimber "the company" and so I'm averse, but I know a lot of people who have a great one and trust their lives to it.

I just love my Glock 17, and it would be a toss up between it and my CZ-75B for the title of "last gun standing" if I ever get into bad financial straights and have to see everything off.

You'll get 50% at most for your Glock. While I am not a Glock man, my 19 is an awesome gun and I don't think I'd sell it for a Kimber or anything else. I'd try and find the cash in other places to pick up the Kimber.
With that said, my Kimber Special Edition Pro Tactical is one of my best guns. It's the older Kimber which IMO are the better Kimbers. Just as I wouldn't sell the 19, I'd never part with the Kimber. I am a true blue 1911 fan.

I believe the Pro Carry is one of Kimber's less expensive offerings. I love mine. Accurate as I am, no failures of any kind. It is my daily carry.

A word of caution - 1911s tend to mysteriously multiply. :- )

Even after I bought my Kimber, I seem to continue to buy things for it.....Such as 3 seperate holsters( 1 for owb carry, 1 for IWB and one for open carry). Then we have my 3 different sets of grips, working on #4 - a set of laser grips. I guess some people are never satisfied......

Your Glock is a great weapon and the Kimber most likely will be one too. However, unless you have no other choice, keep the Glock and save up for the Kimber. My advice is to never sell a gun that you are generally happy with. That one of the reasons that I have a very large gun safe that still will not hold all my guns! :)

Best regards.

Have the 3" Kimber Ultra Covert II .45, love it. I have a full size Beretta PX4 and as crazy as this might sound, the Kimber is not only my most accurate gun, its the smoothest shooting one too. 1000+ flawless rounds. Its tight alright, just make sure you clean it thouroughly every couple hundred rounds if possible. People say Kimbers are unreliable, but I think a lot of it is due to insufficient cleaning since this is one tight gun.

getting the Kimber is a great idea. however, parting with a G19 is not. if there's any other way to get the Kimber, do it. a good 1911 and a compact Glock are both very important pieces of a well rounded collection, you need them both :-(

I have both

a Kimber Tactical pro II and a couple Glocks, a 23 and a 32. They are the same size as the 19 and just as reliable. If I am going to a gun fight, I am taking the Glocks, period. While I love my Tactial II it was not reliable from the factory. It is now and I feel comfortable carrying it and, it is pretty good looking. If you don't mind a full sized gun you might consider the Taurus PT1911. I have the duo-tone model and it utterly reliable after 2200 rounds. It is more accurate than my Kimber and, quite frankly, it is better looking than the model I have. It has just as many extras as the Kimber for less money.
