A few months back, two of my long time friends from my gun club passed. One was a founder from the club's inception in 1964. He had been my mentor and I have many memories of shooting with him and him teaching me about the vagaries of club operations. The "hub of the club", he was for many years.
His daughter asked if I would appraise his guns. I did. Some neat old guns including a BT99, a Y model 12, and a TB that I had borrowed to win the club championship one year.
All said and done, I saw his son-in-law yesterday at the league shoot and asked how the disposition was going. " Mostly gone".
He showed me from my app what was left. I had thought about buying one as a remembrance of old John. I then bought two. A Blackhawk 357 that he had killed a few deer with and a pristine Nylon 66 that he called his "plastic fantastic", long before that appellation was applied to Glocks and others.
My son, also a big fan of his, is thinking strongly about that model 12.
Friends need to be remembered. I'll carry that 6 1/2" Ruger along with my Henry single shot 357 for at least one day this fall for deer and think about John, a very capable deerslayer and club leader.

Condolences for the loss of your friend. Having some of your friends guns is a fitting memory for an old friend. May He RIP and I hope you enjoy the Blackhawk and the Nylon 66.
