I am looking at a revolver that I am thinking about buying.
It is a 642 with a 3 inch barrel. Of course, it is a pre lock. I think that they only made them for one year, not sure on that however.
I have never seen one before. Anyone know what the value of this revolver would be? Any information?
Thanks

3"

they did not sell well in my area...cold wether & that extra inch makes it a bit to big for coat-pocket carry. thus they price the same as 2" models. In other areas, the story may well be different. Having shot one, they do make it a lot easier to become accurate with than its shorter brother.

I've seen them come up for sale at auction from time to time and the they fetch a "pretty penny" so if you can get a good deal on one it might be worth it to buy from an investment angle. Aesthetically, that particular S&W revolver never has appealed to me.....but that is just my personal taste. If you like it and the price is right...go for it !

Thanks for the replys. I can get it for 275. It has some holster wear on the barrel, but since the barrel is stainless, it should rub out.
I have a 642 with the standard short barrel. I have never owned a 3 inch revolver. I have never seen a 3 inch 642. I am going to buy it, first thing in the morning.:D
Thanks again.

what caliber is a model 642?? i saw a model 624 at a pawn shop not so long ago for $325.... it was a 3" stainless .44 spl that looked almost like new......

The 642 is a 38 special.
You should have grabbed that 624 for that price. The 3 inch models are harder to come by in almost all calibers.
