Archerandshooter is off to various places around the country this week for work. I just got this in my email:

I'm sitting at the gate, all the way inside airport security, and I look up at the bar down here and it is POSTED with one of those 51% signs!

Gotta keep all those travellers with guns sober, dontcha know!

This moment of Zen brought to you by TSA and the airline industry.....

People;

Being the ignernt non-air-travel slob that I am, I'm unaware of the meaning of the 51% sign. Would anyone care to elucidate?

I believe, that in Texas it's off limits to carry in an establishment that makes 51% or more of its profits from the sale of alcohol for consumption on premises (a bar). These place must be posted as such. Much like a 30.06 sign must be posted if a business owner wishes to exclude CHL holders from the premises.

I haven't lived in Texas for 10 years, so I may be off. Please correct me if I am.

That is correct. And of course, there are bars aplenty near the airline gates. Where you are, by definition, not carrying a gun.

My bet is that people just put up whatever signs, stickers, whatever, that TABC sends them because they assume they have to.

I saw a sign last week at the entrance to a restaurant/bar at the Seattle/Tacoma airport forbidding concealed weapons (I forget the exact wording) on the premises. But I wondered to myself ... how would you get a gun to that point anyway?

Hmmmm......................

I'm gonna look next time I go into the Cleveland airport.....
