I've been thinking all day today and thought about how if i made the wrong decision last week i could be in jail or deported by now.

I had a friend i've known for awhile now over at my house last week, and showed him my lil collection. He was espcailly impressed with the Taurus PT92 pistol i own (18 you can own handgun in missouri, just not buy) and asked me to sell it to him. Knowing that i'll be crossing the gray area if i sell him a pistol i promptly refused even when he offered $550.

last night i got a call on my cellphone which was charging, imagine Eric Clapton's "cocaine" song going off at 1:30 in the deep night. So this guy started beggging me to loan him the pistol for the night, because he's gonna meet some "dudes from out of town who might be armed" and wants to use my pistol for intimidation! I promply told him to knock it off (not as nice when i said it) and told him that i will call the cops on him if he even thinks about.

Now, if for greed last week i sold th pistol to him, and he used it for intimidation or whatever and it comes back traced to me, i'm sure that in a court of law that i "should" be cleared of any wrong doings. But in worse case i'll have a record which means i may never become a US citizen or worst case scenrio deported back to China!

lesson learnt, no more FTF sales till i get my citizenship!

If the type of friends you have are the kind that meet "dudes from out of town that are armed" I would not be showing them any guns I own and would make sure the guns I have are secure in a safe since the cat is out of the bag in case he decides to "help"himself to your collection.

You did the sensible thing. The problem with a lot of gun laws is the only person who seems to understand them is the DA who will be prosecuting you if you break them.

I agree. Although I don't know the op and I have no idea if this is his only friend who is like this (we all have one...sometimes family) or if they are all similar. I would just recommend rethinking how important being a responsible gunowner, and a citizen, is to the op and make friend adjustments if necessary. If the other guy is willing to try and bribe a long-time friend, the op, and then a few days later wake him him up in the middle of the night for the same reason, I would be jumping through hoops right now and not shut my eyes until I felt 100% confident that my firearms and weapons were completely secured.

Being a responsible gun owner goes beyond just obeying the 4 rules. Life-changing decisions are frequently part of the package.

It don't sound to me like he had to "rethink" anything. He got it right the first time. You never had a friend that turned out to be someone different than you thought?

gun addict, as far as I'm concerned, your "friend" has demonstrated that he's not the sort of person to entrust with a gun. I don't know what he's up to, but he sure seems to lack good judgment and responsibility.

You did the right thing. Now cut him out of your life as his behavior can only drag you down to his level. Stay stong, and congats on making a good decision.

No more? You mean you've already sold firearms FTF? Handguns? And not going through an FFL?
If so, you've already committed crimes that would put you in jail, then deported.

BTW, it's pretty obvious this friend was involved in a drug deal.

Handguns must go through an FFL (Form 4473 and NICS). But you're right as far as FTF, as long as it's done through an FFL.
The inference from the original post is the sales were not going through an FFL.

Matters on local laws.
Face-to-face sales are unregulated in many states.

You watch too much TV.

Ever hear of the so-called "gun show loophole" the Antis are trying to close? Well, what they are really trying to stop is FTF transactions between private sellers. Selling guns person to person is no more involved than if I sold you my car or my cell phone. You see it, you like it, you buy it, you walk away. Done deal.

As I understand it, an FTF transaction is fine under federal law, as long as the seller does not know of any disqualifying factors that would prevent the buyer from buying/owning. State laws can be more stringent . . . you need to check out the rules in your particular state.

Back to the OP's topic...

I recall a person once saying that...

An 18-year old boy is not a man.
He can act like a man one minute and then turn into a 3-year old the next.

Your friend's behavior is that of an idiot. Walk a straight line so that you can be an American someday. Gun ownership in itself should keep your nose clean, because it is not a responsibility to be taken flippantly.

Sorry charlie... that may be true in Pennsylvania but everyone knows that "it's legal in Texas" rules THR...and it's legal in Texas.

Seriously, without knowing the original poster's state of residence you can't support the statement you made.

Everything aside, I'd be worring about coming home and finding your 'buddy' has told his 'buddies' about your little stash and your home is ransacked and your guns are gone!
Guys like that are just bad news. You should have never sold him the gun, let alone showing him your inventory. That sort of new travels fast and not in good circles.
I'd think real hard about moving, soon! It's too late now, just try and cover your butt and if you're not going to move, put those guns some where else. Good luck..........

Cheers,

George

Get new friends, agreed.

Don't let your friend in your place again, sounds like possible theft threat there.

Get a safe and lock it up when it's not on your hip.

Disassociate yourself whit this idiot.

i've got a expensive safe at home which costs as much as half of my collection and i havn't talked to this guy sense, we worked together at a daycare and went to school for 4 years together........

oh, and in missouri handgun can be transfered in state without going through FFL

There’s an old saying: “If you lie down with dogs, you’re going to get fleas.”

+1 on getting new friends.

+1 on securing your guns if you haven't already.
