Was a beautiful and hot day in Rosharon, and so I took these revolvers out for a spin. I was shooting offhand at 17yds, and didn't have spectacular results, but had a great time nonetheless. Fun DA action in the M617 and some spicy 10mm out of the M610. From time to time the 460V makes it to the range for a self-punishment session whether I need it or not. 49 rounds of 460S&W today on the chrony; what a blast! I really need to install that EGW fiber optic front sight on it as I can barely make it out, especially in the shade. I had the extractor rod keep backing out, but I kept it going between cylinders-full for the entire session without locking it up. I reckon I could use a bit of advice; blue threadlocker on the extractor rod threads or no?

3 good looking revolvers you have there. Every time I see one of those .460 or .500 S&W revolvers I think to myself how cool it would be to have one. (Cue Tim the Toolman Taylor caveman noises) But, my wrist needs to last me quite a while longer and I have damaged it enough. ;)

Sounds like a wonderful day at the range.

Sweet! The full S&W salsa spectrum from mild to medium to extra spicy!

I shot my buddy’s 8 3/8” .460 a couple of years ago, that was a double handful and a half! :what:

Sounds like a great day :).

Stay safe.

Sounds like a great day at the range.

I developed a light, relatively speaking, load for my 460XVR with 255 SWC and Unique in the 460 cases. Much more fun to shoot than full power loads when plinking at the range.

But it is always good re-acquaint oneself with the wrist snapping recoil of the 460.

Actually, the mass of the X-frame helps to mitigate recoil significantly as do the Hogues, and yes, it can be downloaded quite easily.

I feel it on my shoulders and the meat of my palms, actually...but quite tolerable.

Nice trio of S&W revolvers. I had one that kept backing out so I painted just a little nail polish on the threads. I have 3 daughters so nail polish & nail polish remover are always in stock. It's been 4 or 5 years and still tight

You shouldn't need loctite on the extractor rod. Make sure you tighten it using either a tool from Brownell's or a vice grip wrapped in leather so it doesn't mar the rod. I normally extractor rod in a vice and give the cylinder a good turn. I run thousands of rounds without having to tighten it again.

If you do use a thread locker go with purple. You don't need blue.
