The other night, my kids were watching, "Mighty Joe Young". Essentially, King Kong for the current generation.
Since I wasn't deeply engrossed in the film, I can't give you the play-by-play of who's who, but here's what made me stop and pay attention:
There's a scene where the (female) human who has befriended the ape is arguing with this guy who wants to take him to LA to live on a sanctuary of some sort. I need to paraphrase their discussion, but this is the gist:
She: You can't keep him caged.
He: He won't be caged. We can protect him from hunters and poachers. We can take care of him. He'll get the best medical treatment, the best food & diet. We can protect him. He'll be safe.
She: You can protect him. You can keep him safe. But he won't be free .
I thought ... wow ... someone in Hollywood understands.
But then of course, the ape went to LA and I lost interest.
