A Tale of Two Hi-Powers

There is something about a Hi Power with some usage marks. It's like a scuffed up old 1911. Just screams "history". If you ask me you are taking fine pictures. Then again, the Hi Power is a looker anyway!

I love shooting my Hi-Power's.

I have two. A mid-to-late 50's FN and a newer FN MkII. Both are great guns.

Here's a pic of the older one. It came to me with Pachmeyer grips, but I just felt wood was more appropriate. Those are Houge wood panels. It still shoots great.

My MkII is in the midst of a tear down and customize project, so no pictures. It's also FN marked. It's getting a C&S ignition kit, ambi safety, all new springs, new sights and a refinish. Then after testing it'll take a spot in my CCW lineup. Great old guns that shoot very well.

FWIW, I got both of mine from Sarco for ~$400/ea. just wait on the deals.

Wow, those are spectacular deals! Can't wait to see the MK III. What kind of finish are you putting on it?

Matte Hard chrome. Thinking of having the slide flats polished, similar to huntershooter's on page 1. Depends on how deep the rust goes.

It's a funny story, I actually bought the first one planning to rip it down and do a "Modern CCW" conversion. But when I picked it up it was in too nice a shape to do that to. Internal extractor, mostly complete original finish, thumb print. I liked it too much as is.

So I ordered another. The MkII is much more what I needed. FN marked, but nasty, painted (ish) finish, that is like 30% gone, nothing really cool, but a solid frame, slide and barrel. Great base for a build. I spent this morning polishing the sear lever. I've been dry firing it for a couple hours, trying to decide if I want to stone a secondary angle on the sear to get rid of that last bit of creep in the trigger.

Those are both really sweet pieces. The P35 is my preferred 9mm next to my HK P7. The Browning has always felt really good in my hands over "modern" nines that hold a few more rounds. I like Glocks and SIGs too,but I always go for the BHP first.

Dogmush, that sounds like an interesting project. I hope you post pictures and your thoughts after you've gotten a chance to shoot it.

I gotta say, anothernewb, that is one gorgeous handgun you have there. I've never been a real fan of the two-tone, but yours just hits the right note with me. I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, just shoot me an IM and I'll take care of it for you just based on the picture. :)
a fine offer, and thanks for your service. I can guarantee it will be available for sale upon shortly after the event of my passing.:D

Although I should note that I have no plans for that soon.

Looks great Comrade. Hi-Power and "ugly" hardly ever mix. Of course, THIS might has been an exception. Yuck!

^ Cylinder and Slide, It was their extended slide stop. Although its stamped RDIH from a company in Germany (If I recall Correctly)

The gun also sports their (C&S) trigger and internals...

If it was not for the Browning Hi-Power I would have stopped shooting for pleasure and practice a about four years ago. I thought I had got to where I couldn't shoot well anymore and had accepted it. Then after a fit with a gun jamming all the time I traded it for a Browning Hi-Power. I choose it simple because it was a Browning. My Dad preferred Browning and gave me a Browning 22 Semi-Auto when I was around 8 years old. So I was just happy to have a nice looking gun. Then I shot it. No lie, first shot was exactly, and I mean exactly where I aimed. The following shots came in a nice close group. I was smiling. Soon I traded for another and got completely rid of brand X.

Now, I know the T series holds a special place because of its finish, but I don't think it has anything on the model I own.

Here are the results of the first shots. We all know the first shots are a bit tricky, trying to control an unfamiliar trigger. I have shaky hands anyway.

sirgilligan,

That's a BHP success story if I ever heard one! Is that the factory finish on yours?
