I hope somewhere in the back of a young man's mind there are some good memories of time spent in the woods with this gun. It's not mine, nor is he my son, but I can hear it in his mother's voice when she remembers buying it for him... making payments week after week so her little man could go out and do the one thing he enjoyed the most. But now the ties are distant, and her heart aches to be a part of his life.... IMG_20220822_200032084~2.jpg

I’m still smiling from when my paw paw bought me my single shot 410. 1,000 of squirrels meet an end with that thing. Got it when I was around 10. I’ll be 40 in October. Still brings a smile. He’s gone and sadly so is the shotgun. But memories last. He taught me how to stalk game, skin, fish, trap, and tend a garden. Sadly those ways are disappearing.

My parents never bought a gun for me in that respect, I worked delivering papers to earn the weekly payments on guns I wanted. Except for my first which I saved and bought a new savage auto 22lr in full. My parents did however have to fill out the paperwork for said purchases as I was 13 when I bought first gun. I sold that to a young man, after talking with his mother, so he could shoot indoor small bore competition.

Soon it will be your turn to teach the knowledge and skills you learned and make new memories with your children. Sadly I never got to hunt with my dad, but he did teach me gun safety, how to shoot, and cried with me when we had to end yhe suffering of one of our injured pets that was hit by a car.
