A2 Rifle Handguard Width?

Starting to plan out a build, and I need some advice.

How wide are the A2 rifle handguards? Are they closer to the M4 handguards, or closer to the single head shield CAR handguard?

A2 handguards have always been interchangeable from top to bottom, so they should each have a heat shield in them. They should be the same diameter at the rear as a carbine handguard, but tapered at the front so they fit the old triangular end cap.

Carbine handguard = CAR or M4?

Proper A2 handguards are comparable to CAR size. M4 sized came about later.
