I remember back in the 80s, The BX was a huge discount, like better than Costco. Now I haven't anayzed my receipts to see exactly, but I haven't seen anything that justifies driving 20 minutes into Hill when I have Super Walmart at the bottom of the hill.

Ft. Belvoir added a gun shop to their home and garden center (south post) about 6 weeks ago. They have a pretty decent selection of mid-priced handguns (S&W, Springfield, Ruger, CZ, Glock, and the like, but no higher-end stuff (yet) like Colts and up. Small selection of rifles and shotguns. Of course, Quantico has long had a decent gun shop and carries handguns through about the Colt (occasionally-I bought my first O1918 there) and an occasional Kimber, plus a sizeable collection of shotguns and rifles.

Don't think we have it at our PX yet here at Sill. Then again, I haven't checked.

Our local gun shops suck. The "best" shop around sells the Glocks at LEO prices that are still $430 for the 9mm. And that's plus tax. :uhoh:

The AAFES at Mtn Home AFB has had a new (empty) gun counter since September. They finally fired it up last week and have a pretty good selection of revolvers, slide guns and rifles. Talked to one of the guys a couple of days ago and he said the reason it took so long was all the red tape they had to cut through.

Prices are good for this area too.
