old enough to join, but well informed enough not to. The more I learn about these people the less I think of them. Most of their discount rates for seniors can be bested with a little research and their support of socialist schemes runs wide and deep. IMHO steer clear of them and tell your friends and relatives to do likewise.

I'm only 36 and have been getting their membership solicitation propaganda for the last year. I always send them a note back saying I will not support their anti-RKBA policies. I keep getting their mail. I did notice that the "membership center" is in California, while HQ is in DC. I don't think they talk to each other.

The problem is that they get a bunch of older people to join not knowing what they are getting into....They make it sound so good that we think what a good deal it is and then find out that all they are is an Insurance company that really doesn't give you the big deals you think they are...ripoff artists...

Try National Association for Senior Concerns.

NASCON's Four Pillars

Where do we stand on key issues? The following represents the four pillars of NASCON. These are the issues we are dedicated to attack head on!

Medicare Reform: This most abused and wasteful of all federal programs could be bankrupt before the Social Security System runs dry!
Social Security Reform: Voluntary personal accounts safe from government meddling must be approved providing citizens options and keeping the system solvent.
Illegal Aliens: Lawbreakers do not deserve Social Security payments intended for you and your family who are citizens.
Tax Reform: An easily understood and simplified tax code in the form of the Fair Tax

So, I'm still wondering: do they actually do anti-gun things or do they just think anti-gun thoughts? From the way people are talking, it sounds like they're partners with the Bradys, but I still haven't heard anything concrete they're done against RKBA.

Again, I'm not defending them; just curious.

They maintain an active lobbying presense in Congress and one of the things they support is more gun control -- they pretend to speak for all older Americans on this issue.

My 36 year old wife got an offer to join in the mail last week - does that count :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I think she would be questioned anytime she tried to use the card for a discount ;)

If you throw their stuff away and occasionally send back "Hell NO" messages long enough they eventually give up trying to recruit you. At least that's what it took for me. For all the reasons earlier posters list, I would never join this organization. I think it is aimed at an "the greatest" generation that for the most part retired early and had always considered increased benefits "free." Serious people know there is a price to be paid for socialist programs and I for one, don't want to impose a huge burden on the gainfully employed.

That said, I got my SS statement Friday and I have to decide whether to take early benefits or wait until I'm 66. Hmmmmm.

Yep, AARP is anti gun. So is most all of the mainline "orthodox" churches such as Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian......etc.
I don't understand where they come off getting into the gun issue. It pisses me off!:fire:

My dad (who turns 61 this year) is a member. I'm 27 and just got a letter and membership card from them that said I just needed to sign the paperwork and I'd be in. You'd think simple math would make it apparent that I'm not elligible, or maybe they think I was concieved when my father was 10.

I think this is the perfect chance for a letter to them about never joining because they're anti-gun. I just wish I could talk my dad into cancelling.
