Ok guys here's what it says word for word right out of the WV hunting regs:

"It is illegal to hunt bear, deer, or wild boar with a pistol using a straight walled case of less than .357 magnum cartridge or a bottle-necked case of less than .24 caliber."

My question is would a 10mm be illegal under this regulation? When they say "of less than .357 magnum" what are they referring to exactly? Bullet diameter? Bullet weight? Case length? The energy of the round itself? Is the 10mm considered straight walled? Anybody have any ideas?

Thank for your help! Heath

This is NOT a definitive or expert opinion, however, I believe a 10mm would comply with this statute, since the case is approximately 1mm greater diameter than the .357 magnum.

RWK, that's what I'm thinking also, but the regulation isn't very clear. Thanks for responding. Anybody else have any ideas?
Thanks

I was told that it was the length of the case. I was told this by a DNR person when I asked him about using a .45acp.
