Academic Exercise—Trash, Fix, or Shoot this 45ACP Case?

If you have to ask... You already know the answer... especially on such a consumable piece. :)

This being said, for 'blammo ammo' it would PROBABLY work just fine... but for such a cheap consumable, there's no reason to risk a jam, etc. Could be more trouble than it's worth. If time is money, look at how much time you (and the rest of us) have already spent on something that is 'maybe' worth $0.20 if brand new. lol
WRT money fortunately reloading is a hobby and this forum a hobby within a hobby so money (spending or saving) was never an issue.

I didn’t like smashing that case and had someone compensated me to do it I still would not have liked it one bit.

I also have a couple of 9mm cases I can’t use because they’re too long to pass my gauges or barrels, but I still keep them because some day maybe I’ll get a case trimmer. And then there are the dozen or so .380 cases I keep because someday I may reload .380.

I have trashed no more than a half dozen cases in my three-year career reloading.

I wouldn't trash it, but I wouldn't reload it with powder/primer either. I'd put a bullet in it for failure drills.

I wouldn't have smashed it, but also wouldn't have put good bullet, primer and powder in it. I keep an "all components unavailable" bucket, in case the future gets crazier than the last few years. I can always scrap it later...

I understand your desire to ‘waste not, whatnot,’ but if you load avidly for, in this example, .45ACP, one piece… or 10 pieces… won’t make a hill of beans difference. If you are digging around in the scrap bucket for a piece of .45 brass, that’s a) very poor planning, and b) we are in a place only seen in crazy EOTWAWKI movies. Just saying.

Find a penny, pick it up, and all the day you’ll have good luck.

I was also guilty of poor humor, or inadequate emoji use.

Its a 45 ACP, I would reload it as long as it fits a gage and 99% of the lip is left. I have gone looking in the scrap bucket for one or two not so bad brass to load and fill a loading block so numbers are even with my plinking ammo LOL.
