Academy Dissapointment

I was thrilled to move to a town with an Academy sporting goods store. About 3 weeks ago I ordered some gun socks and a speedloader for 556. The order went through and I waited. 2 days before the order was due I got notified that it has been canceled. If you don't have a product and you can't get it you shouldn't sell it. I hate getting jerked around like that. I'm registering my frustration with my wallet. I unsubscribed from the thier emails, deleted the app and don't plan on going back to thier store. They have some cool stuff but nothing I can't get elsewhere at a similar price point. If something is out of stock that's one thing. If you take some ones order, make them wait weeks and then cancel, that's totally messed up my book.

Feces occurs. They do have a lot of complaints concerning online orders especially online sales orders not being marked sold out in a quick manner.

Yup, their website is hot garbage. Same for Cabela's. I'll swing thru either place when I'm in the area but 90% of what I buy comes from better online dealers. Academy has gotten me by listing a firearm in stock and when I hit the store it's not available. At least they're good about trying to find it at another store in the area, which they've done. When they discontinue something, they slash quite a bit.
Brownells & Midway have better prices and actually keep tabs of what they have in stock.

I won't ever order online from Academy ever again. I orders two sets of thermal underwear on 12 Dec. They sent one top but the rest of the order was never shipped. I originally called the store that was suppose to ship my items and they said the order was canceled. I finally had to call their national number and sit on hold forever before I got to talk to someone. They finally sent my missing items out yesterday.

Our local Academy had been in business a few years when I Tried, twice to apply online for a store "credit card".

The application never worked out, but I still bought a little ammo now and then when a new gun was acquired--and most of them via-- from Armslist (no more Armslist since about 2017).

About 99% or more of my ammo has been bulk via search engine Ammoseek.

Academy and optics planet have the same "problems " according to me. Down in the city there is two bass pro stores and one cabelas or bass pro also. And a scheels. Midway USA and Graf is where I shop. Scheels isn't a tourist trap like bass pro

IMO, Academy has grown so large that they've lost touch with their clientele. They're prices are no longer competitive and selection is limited unless you like nike --> no thanks to that woke carp (sic). I haven't shopped there in years. Too bad; I really used to like them; they started as an Army/Navy in San Antonio and Austin. Perhaps one day they'll return somewhat back to their roots.

I’ve been buying primers from Academy when I caught them in stock.
$7.59/C for WW or CCI small pistol is not bad these days.
When I had a local Academy store, they were sort of hit-or-miss. I no longer have a store nearby but I did score some CCI SRP online this past Tuesday for $69.99/1000. Free shipping, no hazmat. They showed up at my door today.

Years ago it was my go to store after work. Outskirts of town before heading into the sticks. Bud's prices and no transfer fee. Ammo, components, powder. Things change

We have an Academy near us. Not my favorite store, I rarely go in it. They dropped reloading supplies during Covid, making it an even less desirable place to go. Don't know that I've ever ordered online from them. Try Scheels. Far better selection and I've never had any issue ordering online from them.

My closest Academy is over a 100 miles away so I seldom visit one. I see that as the price I pay for not having to trip over people as I go about my business and don't mind at all. I have ordered online some from them without a problem. My son ordered a muzzleloader kit online sometime ago and it had to be picked up in store. No one could find it until the manger was called for help and she rooted it out and apologized for the wait. Counter dude didn't even know they sold such a thing.

Scheels is the best.

I find them to be convenient but inconsistent around here. In San Antonio there is one every 5 miles. I go by one every day coming home from work and one on the way back from Costco runs. So I drop in every 2-3 weeks. I had a $10 coupon so I got 300 Hornady LSWC HP in 38 this morning. I was hoping for 6.99 pistol’ primers, but at 7.99 I held off, you can never have too many 38 special bullet, and I have two unopened bricks of spp. Sometimes they have good sales on something. If they have it it’s a little cheaper than Ba$$ Pro Shops for most things.

Their website is a vortex of mystery. I just go in store because it’s hard to swing a dead cat around here without hitting five of them. If I want to shop online, I keep a wishlist at Midway and buy when they run a free shipping promo every few months.

sparkyv: Except for two boxes of clay pigeons to put on berms as rifle targets, in the last two years I've mostly bought just running shoes at Academy and a bicycle with tons of gears (far more than the typical 21).

Half the bike's gear 'groupings' wouldn't engage (but a couple groups worked fine for uphill and down) because their technician has a huge workload assembling bikes, and isn't a "bike gun smith".
Buy a mountain bike with lots of extra gears from a bike shop.;)

A few years ago, Academy advertised a 64 gun safe as a Christmas special. We drove up there, 100+miles in my truck, and they had none in stock. They said that they would call when they got more in. It wasn't a total waste because we have family in Springfield MO, but Mrs. L's car gets better milage than my F150. I got home and checked online. Tractor Supply had the same safe for about $100 more. I had a tax number, only drove 50 miles and total payment was about the same as the safe in Springfield. I have not been back.
