Happy New Year to all on THR! Been busy and lots of travel lately, but can settle down for a while and hopefully get back to some hobbies.

So....Day started out as average day...

Went to local Pawn to browse around....looked through tools and headed to gun counter. VERY busy at gun counter and I knew guys behind counter very well.

Spotted Beretta on 2nd shelf down...not real well lit, but had been looking for a 92FS version of beretta. Seen $375.00 on tag and knew I could get at least 10% off that because of history with them.

So I told friend behind counter through the crowd...I thought you were gonna call me when you got a Beretta 92.... (I just put it out! he replied). Well take it up front I'm leaving with it.

He brought it up front in a holster and said it has 2 magazines with it! So I done my paperwork, bought a box of ammo and headed home.....Took it in house and much to my surprise realized what I had just bought without really looking it over at store.

I knew it was worth $340 no matter what the turn out...and I was planning on it being a truck gun, however I dont think that would be wise now.

The pictures are not best, but are pretty good. This pistol is in very good shape. There is very light wear and bluing and condition I believe is over 90-95%.I will take to another dealer I know and maybe get it graded? It is a 92S and is very tight. It has AI stamp which puts it at 1982 if my info is correct.

Please let me know what you think?? I think I had a GREAT day!

Very nice pistol! Just keep in mind that any magazines you purchase must have the notch in the heel position. I have a few 92 magazines that have notches for both thumb and heel releases, so you might want to look for those in case you ever purchase a 92FS.

Every time I see a post on a Beretta, I am reminded that I need a Beretta

Congrats

Gunbroker is listing these as Very Rare and prices are from aprox $500-$1000 with a couple starting at $250, but have the unknown reserve???

http://www.gunbroker.com/Firearms/BI.aspx?Keywords=Beretta+92S

The nicest ? or most expensive one has this info in description which if anyone here knows Berettas....shed some light on it for me

ALL ORIGINAL, SUPER CLEAN= 99% PLUS,BERETTA MODEL 92S- SECOND SERIES, CALIBER 9-MM PARA. MFG. ONLY TWO-YEARS = 1978-1980,THIS GUN WAS MFG. IN 1980

According to this mine stamped AI - 1982 is a Third Series????
And from some info I found on THR AF=1980 alone. not a series of years??

And furthermore Berettas own history puts my pistol out of date in 1981 - But that is wrong as well because they moved magazine release and it was designated SB in 1981?

I suppose there is also the Issue with US and Italian versions.

Either way I am stoked with my purchase! But would like to understand some of the history....does'nt add up? But I feel certain I do not have all pieces to puzzle.

I've got a 92G and a 92FS compact, and they are both excellent shooters. I love Berettas and how well they function... so I'm always on the lookout for one when we're trading at the shop. I have to be quick, however, because there are several others there who also like Berettas, and if I don't get my name on it before they see it, it's gone...
