I’ve had an M&P9 2.0 for about 4 years now. About a year and a half ago I bought a Canik Mete SFX. I thought at first they were about equal in accuracy but now I’m fairly certain the Canik is noticeably ahead of the M&P9. I’ve also heard about some design issues and lock time with the M&P9 that can lead to reduced accuracy. Many people seem to dislike the M&P9 trigger but I don’t have any issues with it. I’ve got about the same number of rounds through each so I don’t think it’s a familiarity issue. Is there something to what I think I notice or am I imagining things?

The Gen 1 9mm guns had timing issues. The slide and barrel would unlock with the slide moving rearward before the bullet exists the barrel.
Randy Lee, owner of Apex Tactical has said the Gen 2 M&P have a revised barrel lockup, but some guns can still experience the early unlocking.
You want the most accuracy out of the MP, get an Apex gunsmith fit barrel.

Whether there is really a problem with the gun or not, you will always wonder whether there is. Sell the gun and buy one you can be happy with.

PS - I am an M&P fan, having owned 7 that had no problems, but it is best to move on from a gun in which you have lost confidence.

I just purchased an M&P 2.0 from Cabela’s right before Christmas. It has the 5 inch barrel and I have been very happy with the accuracy. However accuracy is a relative term. I shoot 115/124 fmj at steel plates at 7,10, and 15 yards. I have run the Federal 124 grain HSTs through it too as this may be my nightstand pistol. So far it shoots right there with my Glock 17/XDM Elite 9mm.

I also have the old M&P 9 and 40 Compact (1.0?), and have never had an issue with them either. Even though everyone on the interweb told me I should hate them lol.

I don't have the 2.0, but do have the 1.0 and it has yet to fail me. No fte/ftf ever and it's been with me for about 7 years iirc. I do have 2 2.0's, but both are 10mm (4" & 5.6" pc) that run like a charm. The 1.0 initially came as a 4.25" ported core model and the bought a complete upper 5" ported core. As far as the unlocking early it doesn't in a way to cause any safety issues. For the 4.25" I bought a storm lake threaded semi-fit barrel that stays locked longer than the factory barrel. For the 5" I bought an apex grade semi-fit threaded barrel and it also stays locked longer than the factory. I haven't checked which stays locked longer. Adjustments to the hood were required to make the fit and function of the barrel (actually both barrels).

I own three M&P's. A 1.0 45 with an Apex duty trigger upgrade as well as two 2.0's in 9mm and 40. The 45 is hand down one of the most accurate guns I own. Just an absolute tack driver. The 2.0 40 is extremely accurate as well. The 9mm is just "combat accurate" Both 2.0 guns are bone stock except for upgraded sights. I'm thinking of upgrading the 2.0 9mm's trigger to an Apex flat face to see if I can wring out some more accuracy.

I’m very tempted to get an Apex semi fit barrel and try to fit it myself. I need to shoot it some more and see if it’s really behind the Canik or just an issue with the nut behind the trigger.

I bought a used 2.0 9mm compact with the hinged trigger based on reputation and having a very crisp trigger for a striker fired gun. I put on a set of Ameriglo sights and haven't looked back. It has fired hundreds of rounds of cheap 9mm and some of my reloads and never skipped. It is ALMOST as accurate as my cz75sa with the same rounds at the distances I shoot most commonly. It rides in a very nice TT gunleather IWB and I don't have a worry about reliability or accuracy. I might be more worried about it if I was shooting in games, but for its useage, it is perfectly adequate.
