What kind of accuracy and luck have you guys been having with Thompson Centers? Thinking of getting a stainless flex tech frame and a couple of barrels. Any ideas or opinions........

IME most rifle caliber T/C Contenders/Encores will shot sub-moa in rifle calibers and 2 MOA or less with pistol calibers.

A buddy of mine has a 14" .223 barrel (4x Leupold scope) that shoots three shot groups at 100 yards around 5/8", and has a 12" .44 Magnum barrel (2x Leupold scope) with muzzle brake that shoots three shot groups around 1.5" at 100 yards. Both barrels have killed buttloads of game, with the .44 Magnum dropping a 300 pound hog in its tracks at 50 yards (300 grain Hornady XTP).

Just my .02,

I'm setup with a contender with several barrels the most accurate being the 14" .223 its accurate to the point of boring as it simply puts every bullet exactly where the cross hairs are lined up at, I only run handloads so can't speak for factory ammo but with my HLs its just one ragged hole if your shooting paper so now I setup frozen battles of water at random distances, the translucent bottles add a challenge as ya gotta try to spot em out here in the desert then try to sight on em with very little in the way of a visible outline... when hit they explode into a shower of ice crystals, no ice cloud then ya keep trying

I have a 14" .223 and a 14" 30-30. Either one will do well under 1" at 100 yds (with the .223 the better one).

I have 22"-barrel .223Rem carbine. My own loads with Lapua 55 gr FMJ less than 1/2 MOA. Best thre shot-group "by accident" 1,142" (29cm)at 300meters with 4-12x50 scope.

FWIW

I can speak only for T/C pistol barrels but I've seen/shot probably 15 or more in calibers from .22lr to .30 Herrett and they all were quite accurate. Even my 10" .22 Hornet barrel has come very close to MOA at 100yds. with Hornady 35-gr. V-max and I think its' failure to do so is my fault, not the gun's or the ammo's.

Currently, I have three barrels for my Encore (rifle).

26" Factory .50 cal. MZ- Shoots Barnes Expanders with 150 grains of pellets around 1" @ 100 yards.

26" Heavy, Factory 22-250 Barrel. It shoots 55gr. BT's around 1/2" @ 100 yards consistently.

26" Heavy Custom Shop .444 Marlin barrel shoots Leverevolutions around 1" @100 yards.

All three shot groups. I am pleased with the performance and accuracy. Hopefully, I will add another barrel to the collection. I just can't decide what caliber!

In stock form they shoot pretty good. Do a trigger job, lighten the trigger, put an oversized hinge pin, custom barrel and they can do a bit better. When I get my barrel in I will let you know how it does. I have a 14 inch 7mm BR barrel on order.

My T/C barrels both shoot pretty well. Both are 20" stainless-fluted with the Williams Guide rear/Firesight front combo.

The .45-70 is capable of shooting 3-shots into one hole at 50 yards, and around 1.5-2" at 100, using the irons. Right now the forend is warped, and I've been working on relieving the ears to get it to shoot straight again. I may give up and get a new forend at some point, but we'll see yet. FWIW, it's the "FlexTech" forend which is giving me trouble. It seems pretty lightly molded and I suspect too much heat from shooting too fast did it in.

The other is a .50-cal MZ. It will shoot about 1" at 50 yards from three shots, and 2-3" at 100, with a 250gr Shockwave with the Superglide sabot and 2-T7 pellets.

I suspect with a scope or finer irons, those groups could be improved. The Firesight is a good field sight, but subtends alot of target and makes for a very coarse sight picture IMO.

The T/C Contender pistol still holds the World Record for 500 yards accuracy. The 500-yard group measured 3/4" X 3.5", and was fired using iron sights. :neener:

ALL T/C Contenders, G2s and Encores are guaranteed to fire MOA or better with hand loads. The best factory-made barrels that I have had (out of a couple dozen) have been the 15”, .270 Win Encore pistol barrels. Using Federal Premium, 130 Gn rounds, I have maintained .5 MOA off the bench. The .444 Marlin, and .45-70 Gov’t, .260 Rem and 7-08 were also exceptionally accurate!

At present my 13-year-old daughter and I have Contenders, G2s and Encores. We also have the .22 Classic. FYI, our Pro Hunter Encore .50X209 is a dream to fire (this from a man who has had over 30 neurosurgeries).

Don’t bother looking beyond T/C’s own scopes. You can pay more, but you will not get better.

T/C Encores and ProHunter barrels are quite well known for out-of-the-box accuracy. My son shoots varmints with the Encore, 24", blued, heavy barrel and holds about 1 MOA. He just bought the 28" SS Pro Hunter hvy contour barrel in the same .22-250 for his Encore (they're interchangable) and is extremely happy with it's accuracy.
