ACOG question from iraq

Hey guys what's going on?

I'm currently "over there" and i have no access to any rifle range right now. I acquired an acog, and i have a borelaser, and I want to verify that it's zeroed. Anyone have a boresight target for an ACOG?

When you say "bore laser" are you talking about the issue bore light or a civilian laser boresighter?

Depending on the model of ACOG, the bore sight target for the M68 is a good field expedient.

i have an SSI borelaser, the kind that goes in the chamber, i have had good results with it before...

If i found the 25M zero target for the ACOG, i suppose i could put the rifle in a rest, mark off 25M, and do it that way, but i can't even find THAT anywhere online.

Measure off 25m and stick the borelaser in the bore. Adjust the ACOG until the 300M aiming point (the top of the illuminated portion of the post in the TA31) is pointing where the laser is and you are good to go. Verify the zero first chance you get; but you should be sub-MOA in error out to 300M (barring environmental conditions).

I remember the ACOG manual had a quick and dirty way to get it close to zero. Set the target at 25m and then zero the optic using the 300m holdover as the aiming point. I think that was how the TA01 NSN worked. Might be different depending on what model you have.

I'm gettin ready to go to A-stan. I got a TA-31 issued. The tip of the chevron is 100m POA. Inside the chevron is 200m, the tip of the line at the base of the chevron is 300m.

At 25m, zero so that the POI is 1.5-2" below the tip of the chevron. A quick way to do this is to put the chevron tip on the top of the zero target's head and adjust the rounds to impact in the top half of the zero circle (center chest). I haven't had a chance to confirm at a 100m KD range, but I hit at 300m with my M4 on the qual range (using the small line at the base) so it's close.

There is a TM issued with all the relavent info in it, including targets.

Unfortunately I forget which one it was, and I never bothered to get a copy.

If you look around online at AKO or whatever online resources the Army currently has you should find it.

I had an acog when I was over there and it came out of the box pretty close to zeroed. I had to adjust the elevation because I had the SDM rifle and used different rounds, but multiple peopl in my platoon didnt have to move them at all, and the people that did only had to a few clicks.
The acog is a great scope, my rifle got beat to hell and never lost its zero.

thefitzvh, if your ACOG is mounted to your carry handle, the suggestions to do the typical 25m zero will turn out to be in huge error. The 25 m zero is for a gun with the line of sight starting at the same height over the barrel as your iron sights. When you add another inch or so elevation to the sight axis via putting an ACOG on top of the carry handle, your 25 m zero will have your shots way high beyond 25 m until the slug reaches apogee. In other words, it won't follow the trajectory you would expect and will be way off beyond 25 m from what you expect.

If you have a flat top, that should be really close. You don't need a laser for 25 yard sighting.
