Senate Might Pass Gun Control Without a Fight…

Tell Them To FIGHT BACK!

Dear [Member],
It skipped committee…
It didn’t receive an amendment vote…
But Last Wednesday, Senator Chuck Schumer snuck gun control into Section 6075 of the National Defense bill.
It’s been almost a week, and no Senator has opposed it!
If Senate Republicans let this reauthorization of the Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 pass as an amendment to the National Defense bill without a fight, they’re essentially carrying out Joe Biden’s Executive Order from March.

If you don't like the idea of Republicans in the Senate letting President Biden make some old gun control law permanent without a fight, pick up the phone & call your senators at (202) 224-3121.

All gun control is unconstitutional, & this “Undetectable Firearms Act” is no different. GOA has been saying that since this was first enacted in 1988. We just REFUSE to compromise.

In fact, GOA is the ONLY gun lobby to have opposed the Undetectable Firearms Act each time it has received a vote—in 1988, 1998, 2003, and 2013.
GOA’s legislative counsel Michael Hammond was even on the Senate Floor when the Undetectable Firearms Act was first passed in 1988. The way he tells it:
I let out an audible yelp because, even in an era of sloppy legislative draftsmanship, the bill took a very sensitive subject and handled it in a constitutionally dubious manner.

The bill outlawed “undetectable” “major components,” without giving an exclusive list of what a “major component” is.
And ultimate discretion was left to the Attorney General—which might have been fine under the Reagan administration, but not-so-fine under gun-hating Merrick Garland.

In 2023, this is especially relevant because the Biden Administration tried to change the definition of “a frame or receiver” to include gun parts!
This was walked back in ATF’s final rule, where the agency still chose a confusing and expanded definition—forcing GOA to file a lawsuit Morehouse Enterprises v. ATF (I) alongside 17 Attorneys General.

Join us in urging Congress to STOP the Undetectable Firearms Act by calling your Senator at (202) 224-3121 and telling them to FIGHT BACK.

And besides, reauthorizing the Undetectable Firearms Act won't keep anyone safe from criminals or terrorists.
It will only hamper law-abiding citizens.

After you call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 to oppose the ban, watch our latest Minute Man Moment where Ben explains how this law could affect every plastic gun you own.

In 2023, advancements in firearm technology have brought us homemade plastic guns. Now, old metal detectors and the 1988 Undetectable Firearms Act are useless and ineffective.

Thanks to 3D printing, hobbyists now create guns with plastic and nylon materials like the Liberator and Songbird—innovative single-shot pistols with minimal metal components.

Law-abiding gun owners willingly comply with regulations, adding metal to the grip. Unfortunately, criminals and terrorists easily bypass this requirement. It's high time Congress catches up!

It's 2023 and detecting polymers and non-metallic items has been standard practice for scanning machines for years.

And forcing firearms to meet 1980s metal detection standards is mere security theater.

Join GOA in urging Congress to embrace innovation, prioritize safety, and adapt to our modern world by calling your Senator at (202) 224-3121.

If Congress reauthorizes this law, will it empower Merrick Garland to ban firearms with 3D printed “major components?”

If he wants to, he can certainly try!

That’s why it is critical that Congress refrain from mindlessly codifying security standards from 1988.

Unless a legislator supports a ban on homemade and 3D printed firearms, they must oppose the reauthorization of the Undetectable Firearms Act.
So please pick up the phone and tell your Senators to defend your gun rights at (202) 224-3121.

We cannot get gun control removed from these “must pass” bills without the phone calls of activists like you.

So thank you for giving our team in Washington D.C. the backup they need!

In Liberty,
Aidan Johnston
Director of Federal Affairs
