Adolph Express cases, .30 Adolph.

Chas Newton made som Express cases for the gunsmith Fred Adolph.

.280 Adlph Express, .30 Adolph Express, .35 Adolph Express and .40 Adolph Express. There was also one called .30 Adolph.

Does any one have any info on this rounds, and possibly know where to get any cases?

Cartridges of the World says that when Newton started selling his own rifles, he simply renamed the .30 Adolph Express to .30 Newton. CotW also says the .35 Newton is a .30 necked up. Whether this applies to the Adolph round and to other calibres, I do not know.

Buffalo Arms catalogs .30 Newton cases but I do not know if they will ship to Norway.

Published dimensions lead me to believe you could form Newton cases out of the new .375 Ruger but I do not know of it actually being done.

CotW are wrong on this one.

The Adolph Express cases had a rebated rim, the .30 Adolph was semi-rimmed, and the Newton cases are rimless. The .35 Newton is the .30 necked up. There was also a .33 Newton and a .40 Newton. And various wildcats based on the Newton case. Gipson made a .375 Gipson, which was the .35 necked up to .375. It is very close to the .375 Ruger.

Buffalo Arms list the .30 Newton brass, but don't have any. For now that is anyhow. They make Newton brass from other parent cases, so it is not original brass.

It is possible to form Newton brass from the .375 Ruger. The Ruger case is slightly longer and the shoulder is a bit more forward. Besides that, the Ruger case is similar to the old Newton case. One might wonder...

I have a friend who uses .375 Ruger brass for a wildcat he has created, a .416 Newton. It works very well.

Nothing new under the sun. I was only surprised that they shortened the case when they necked it down to produce .30 and .338 RCMs instead of staying with the full Newton size.

My 1987 Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversion confirms they are the same. It says to take a 8X68S case resize full length, trim to 2.515 inches. Recommends 180 grain bullet in front of 73 grains 0f 4831.
