Adult Single Shot .22?

Very nice. It is nice to see the gun is still in production. I see that the I G model is the adults sizes variant. But the comb looks set up for a scope.

Pretty much all Savage MkI and MkII stocks have a lower comb. I find all of their stocks too low for a good cheek weld when using a scope. This goes for the MkII G (wood stock) and MkII BTVL (Boyds laminate stock). I have both. They seem perfect for use with iron sights. But neither of my rifles have them, both are the heavy varmint barrel version.

I regret not buying one of the H&R break open 22s and having a 22mag barrel fitted to it. Single shots are cool. But I think spending $500+ dollars so you can shoot one round at a time to save money doesn't make sense. 22 ammo is available and while not as cheap as it used to be still isn't so expensive you can't afford it. WM has 333 Winchester bulk packs for around $25 OTD. If you are worried about shooting too much ammo just limit yourself to 25 rounds with you when you go to the range.

Santa brought this to me XMas 1949. It’s a Remington 514 .22 single shot. I had it professionally bead blasted and re-blued a few years ago, I refinished the stock which is a beautiful piece of walnut. The thing is ridiculously accurate with irons. While setting with it on my porch a few days ago I noticed a lone leaf close to my neighbor’s driveway some 60-70 yards away. When I pulled the trigger the leaf disappeared. I love the rifle and would never sell it. It’s simple but outstanding at what it does.View attachment 1074086

I got my Remington 514 for Christmas in 1964. Still have it and it still looks beautiful. I will never sell mine either.

not sure where you commonly find remington 540x's in .22lr for 500.00 ... I havent seen them that sheap for many many years unless beat up oretty good...have been offered over a grand for mine a few times...and that was before all this crap.... kimber 82's seem to g 800 or so is about the cheapest full size .22 target gun around

The single shot was just tedious, I would only use the adapter if required for competition.

I agree. I have single shot adapters for my CZs, but I find them very annoying compared to just loading a round from the magazine. I never use them.

With the insane prices of ammunition right now, including .22 rimfire, I’ve been thinking a single shot ADULT SIZE rifle might be really fun to conserve ammos and work on fundamentals.

But 99.9% of them seem to be made for children.

I’d prefer new just because I don’t want to deal with finding parts if an antique breaks on me, but I’d anyone can recommend a DURABLE AND TOUGH used variant that isn’t terribly expensive or rare that could do.

Ideas?

Like Wards, Westernfield, Revelation and others. I regularly see them on Gunbroker. If your patient you could get one for under 200.00 including shipping and transfer. Marlin also made a adult size single shot but those prices have shot up. One menber mentioned the Savage MkI and II series. I have both the youth versions. The wood stock single shot MkI GY was found in February like new on Gunauction for 96.00 plus 20.00 shipping. So great deals are out there. Good luck.

My first rifle but from Western Auto under their Revelation brand. Took a whole hour and $10 in parts to convert it into a magazine loader. Was in Jersey Shore PA with a 18" barrel last time i saw it 1969. Gave it to a great family i stayed with until i could get into the USAF.

One I owned a Mossberg US 44, They used to be pretty cheap but I have no idea now. Mossberg made a few versions like the 144. CMP used to sell them.

Love this Traditions Crackshot. I think I paid something like $120 about 6-7 years ago for it. It came with a fixed 4x scope and I put a little stock bag on it so I could carry a double-handful of rounds. 16” barrel makes it super easy to get in and out of the truck even with the full length stock.

Crickett does make an adult-sized version, though I don't have experience with that model. I use the standard youth because when I hunt with mine, the short stock works better when I'm wearing a heavy coat.

I inherited an old Favorite (Well , most of it, its missing the lever and block assembly) I thought it was cool , but figured with the missing parts Id never shoot it. I spotted a new version for sale at a gun store and had to have it , and it is indeed one of my Favorites !

Remington 510-514 models are great
Mine is a 514 Routledge bore for shooting 22LR shot shells only.

The Hopkins & Allen No.922 is a valid choice too, if you can find one with a good bore. The newest one would be 107 years old by now!

A better option would be a Stevens 22/410 or Savage 24 combo gun. Its two single shots in one!
I dont have a handy pic of my Stevens.

Ive also got a Winchester model 67A that fits the bill. And a T/C contender pistol. And a 2000s model Stevens Favorite 22mag.

Lol or, an RWS/Diana model 34. A high quality, break open 22 caliber pellet rifle that sends em downrange at 900 fps. Full sized with a beechwood stock. Its as heavy and recoils like a 22LR.

Numrich has a lever and a breech block for a side extractor old model in stock. They have a lever but no breech block for a center extractor. Just FYI

My paw paw had one of those. Dang thing could literally drive a nail in a board. My uncle used to shoot squirrels in the ears with it on the farm. Wish I knew what happened to it after his passing.

Like many have shared, I don't think I would totally shy away from something vintage out of fears something might snap. Sure anything made by man can snap in two, but in these little 22's there is really very little that can go wrong. And if you look at any of the trainers from any country I think you are going to find them so over built something going south is pretty slim.

I love the old 22 single shots, all my old girls like slow ammo, I thank my lucky stars that sub sonic has gotten so popular because all the cans out there now (something I have less than zero interest in) but shooting those slow rounds out of long single shots made when 22's are just all subsonic, just a perfect day.

Picture if you will.....you are sitting in a hollow, your rifle on a table, no ears you can hear everything, an owl is sitting in a tree above you, and you are watching a turtle crawl under your table, once and a while you take a shot, and the animals don't move. Just nice and one of the simple pleasures of life.

My CZ 452 Scout is an awesome compact .22lr.
It will accept 5/10 round mags but I love the single shot adapter.
For shooting from the bench it smooths things out nicely. Just drop a round
on the tray and work the bolt.
Other SS rimfires can be difficult to load when your finger are cold.
Quality? Never had a misfire or fail to extract. My 10/22 has had plenty of both.
No plastic, just wood and steel.
Accuracy? My best groups hover around 1-1/8” at 100 yards with quality match ammo and scope.
Not the prettiest rifle, but it’s all wood and steel.
I’m never letting go of this one.
