Dear friends,
Anyone has experience with the 24" DMS upper in 260Rem?
The purpose is long range target and occasional moderate
range to pop a deer, white tail, black bear, etc..
I am targeting the best high BC bullets (140gr) so information about max COAL in single feed (independent of magazine) or any information about barrel info, accuracy, barrel life, loads used, etc... would be very nice.

Anyone knows about a better barrel and how to order it I am also open.
The performance on the early DPMS .308win with the fluted barrel is very good so I though I would ask about this caliber before assembling one.
The DPMS price seems right.

Cheers,
E.

Thanks. I would get more energy from the .308win but will not be able to get a bullet like the 6.5mm with a BC over 0.6 moving at anything close to 2750fps. That is the nice flat curve I am looking for.

Range Velocity Impact Drop
0 2750 -0.5 0
100 2599 0 2.62
200 2457 -4.67 10.41
300 2320 -15.13 23.99
400 2188 -32.08 44.06
500 2059 -56.33 71.42
600 1935 -88.8 107.01
700 1817 -130.56 151.89
800 1704 -182.86 207.31
900 1597 -247.11 274.68
1000 1496 -324.97 355.66

The uppers are great unless you want to shoot the premium VLD Bergers. They are too long for the chamber. If you want long range get a bolt gun.

mnhntr,
Thanks for the advice. Do you know by any chance where the max length runs with the 140gr bergers/others before you hit the lands?
That is why I was considering ordering the barrel with specific chamber measures if this one is not going to fit the bill.
Thanks again.

I called DPMS last week to verify twist rate on the 260 barrels...they used to be 1:7.5 twist, but current 260 barrels from DPMS is 1:8.5...I really wished they would have kept the1:7.5 because I too wanted to shoot the heavier projectiles.

I know that Krieger offers barrels for AR10 type platforms and CST has Bartlein barrels in stock that they can finish for you.

aubie515. Thanks for the info. Good to know.

Anyone knows how to order from Lothar Walter and do it right?
I always had my buddy order for me but last time he messed up so I wan to know how to do it right.
I gave him all the dimensions and then he made a mistake. In the end it worked out but it was not exactly what I had asked for.
I know they take a long time but the barrels are really good. So far all 1/2 MOA and better, including the latest 6x45 for the AR15.

I am one of those that ask myself... Creedmoor, why? ...as I neck up or down military cases....

I do not know off hand but I know on my buddies DPMS he had to seat the Bergers so far back they lost the benefit of the bullets design. I will ask him and get back to you.

Thanks. Any info would be very helpful. At the same time I am looking at the alternative with the barrel makers.
Since the .308win stock is so good I was hoping to just get the upper and done.
Cheers,
E.
