I am going to be buying a Springfield XDM 3.8. But the only problem is I dont know weather to get the 9mm or the .40. It is a hard choice, anyone who has some experiences with the gun help me out.

You really should try it out on range before making up your mind. Best to rent them at the range and find out for yourself. Start with the 9 and then go to the .40 and decide which works best for you.

I shot the 9mm and liked it a lot and that is why I want the gun in the first place. I have shot many .40 cal and can feel how it would be a nice caliber. Honestly I am leaning towards the 9mm because I loved it I plan on trying the .40 before I buy the gun.

I bought an XD 9mm service last month, and I absolutely love it. I was shocked at how accurately I could shoot it. That being said, I've never shot a .40.

I was just in the same boat. I shot the 9mm and then shot the 40. I ended up buying the .40 because it was in stock at the gun store I was at. After shooting 250 rounds through it last week I am happy with it. It's the first .40 gun I have ever owned (9mm and 45s). It doesn't recoil as snappy as everyone seems to tell me. I can't shoot it as accurately as my cz sp01 but i have 4k rounds through the cz.

Either way you go is a good choice. I decided to give the 40 a shot. A little bit wider and heavier bullet can't hurt.

Now I carry a Glock 21. I need something a little smaller due to the fact it gets hot here in TX and I just can't get my ind off how well I shot the 9mm.

I shot the 9mm version better during fast (not rapid fire) then the 40. The recoil impulse is different, there is a different rhythm to shooting it then the 9mm.

So what do you all think about the new Xdm .45? Interesting, very interesting. I'm still looking for the ideal (not 1911) .45

I'm not a fan of the .40. I can't really put my finger on it, but I simply find it uncomfortable to shoot. I've owned an XD40 and a Glock 22. The round has solid ballistics and capacity. Still, I prefer 9mm or .45. Just my $.02. Not trying to convince anyone.

My xdm compact .40 shot around 1.25 inch 6 shot group with tulammo at 15 yards standing. I average 3 to 4 inch groups with it, that's over the 250 rounds I fired so far. With better ammo and a rest I bet it would shoot sub 2 inch groups to 25 yards, major limiting factor being the sights. It's as accurate as any handgun I have shot.

What was your gun doing?

If you live in Glocklandia like I do you are going to find it difficult to follow this advice. The local rental range has EVERY Glock ever made and several revolvers but not much else. Another range I went to 3 hours away in Rosman, NC was nearly all Sig. :banghead:

I ended up buying the XDm 3.8 Compact in .40. It's built like a tank, very solid but also very heavy for carry. It has never failed to feed, extract or go bang. It is reasonably accurate but definately not a tack driver. This is my first .40 caliber and I'm neither pleased or displeased with the caliber. It would be nice to compare it to a 9mm in the same frame side by side at the range to see first hand the difference in .40 verses 9mm but that will likely never happen.

If you buy the .40 there are conversion barrels offered but never in stock. Find one of those and you have either 9mm or .40.

I'm up to four in the XD platform right now. XD45c, XD9sc, XD40sc, and XDm 3.8 40c.

None but the best shooters will note a difference between the XD and XDm.

I have really enjoyed my XDm 9mm 3.8. It's a great feeling pistol and just works really well. I'm not as accurate with it as I am some other pistols I own, but I can certainly do what I need to with it. I'm not sure it's me, the barrel, or perhaps the sights are a tad off. But it's not the laser my Kahr E9 is or my Springfield EMP. I'm only talking about a 1" difference at 75 feet so it's not a problem. My CZ-P07 is the same. Might be me, might be the gun.

The grip safety works flawlessly and I think it's a great idea. I've never not had a flawed grip on the pistol which did not fully disengage the grip safety.

Trigger on the XDm is excellent, a lot like the P07. The P07 trigger is slightly better for me, but they are both good triggers. No Glock type spongy "thoing" when it breaks.

The overall feel of the XDm is wonderful. I think you'll like it if you go with it.

Send the barrel back. 18" inch groups is TERRIBLE and most likely a manufacturing defect. I shoot 4 to 8 inch groups at 25 yards all day

DAdams I love my glock 21 I find it a very nice .45 sweet feel smooth I wouldn't trade it for anything. I thought about the new xdm .45 but I need something smaller both size and caliber, mainly for my wife to get used to shooting my glock scares the crap out of her.
