Does anyone here have any working knowledge of the issued firearms at the Administrative Maximum Security facility in Colorado, or the BOP as a whole?

Bump to top.

I'm guessing standard layout of 870, 700, probably GLOCK for handguns, but I have no idea on the subguns or chemical agent projectors (foggers, etc.).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about ADX, at USP Marion in the late 80's you could find 870s, M14s, M1 carbines, 38 wheel guns & even the bridger line gun in towers and armory. Sort team may also have added scoped Rem 700 and either Ruger or S&W 9mm. I'm pretty sure that by the time ADX was up and running the mix would have included the A2 (or a variation) and replaced most/all revolvers with 9mm Rugers and S&W (both were used by BOP at varioius times, with a preference, as I recall, for DAO). It was probably the late 90's before the BOP really transitioned away from revolvers, after I had ended up in DC.

You would also expect to find 1.5" grenade launchers for various gas rounds as well as hand tossed gas items. Recent years have seen sting balls & flash bangs added to the mix, and "less lethal" loads for the 12 gauge, as well as varous streamers. I don't recall seeing a fogger, but it was probably in the armory. The downside to heavy, non targeted use of CS/CN within building confines is the decontamination problem and the potential for building up a concentration that could be dangerous for individuals with respiratory problems.

Firearms are typically assigned to the post (i.e. tower, outside patrol, etc.) or for special duty (i.e. armed escort, escape post, etc.). No firearms go behind the "main grill" into potentially inmate accessible areas of an institution without specific instructions from the warden, which would only be done in very very unusual circumstances. No sense in potentially accidentaly arming an inmate in a disturbance.
