The above was just detected in Sweden for the first time, it kills every pig and wild boar it comes in contact with, no effect on humans at this point.

There was an outbreak in June in Eastern Europe that caused 1000’s of domestic pigs to be euthanized to prevent spreading.

Swedish authorities have said people in the area where dead wild boars were found with the disease were prohibited from entering the forests, including timber workers, as the disease can be spread on shoes, tools, etc. They don’t know how it got to Sweden, let me put on my tin hat and postulate that Russia, ticked off by Sweden trying to join NATO, introduced it.

Let’s hope it doesn’t make its way here, other countries have immediately stopped importation of Swedish pork, and no doubt their hunting industry is being affected.

Its thought that the infection may have come from a compsting site. A large area around where the outbreak is closed for all public access and forestry work. I'm hoping that the infection stays confined to its current area.
We have our first driven boar day the first of October. The infected area is about six hours drive from our hunting area. There are out breaks of ASF all over Europe and the Baltic states. I would think Denmark is sweating as they have a huge pig industry

I was thinking the same thing about Denmark.

Their canned hams and baby back ribs are popular here. Same for their tins of butter cookies, but that’s another story.

Lycka till med jakten!

Ok, how do I get some? I would absolutely love to infect a trap full then let them go.

There will certainly be an effect on humans. In the U.S., pork is a 28 billion dollar industry and accounts for well over half a million jobs.

And that's assuming it doesn't mutate a little and make the jump to humans. Pigs and humans are surprisingly similar, biologically speaking.

No doubt it would thin out the wild hog population but would make you enemy #1 with the US pig industry. Its so infectious that if it ever crossed into the human population and had the same affect as it does on pigs it would make covid seem like a mild summer cold.

Hmmmm! Think I'll stock up on some Pork. I'm down to three Boston Butt roasts. A good butt roast is hard to find around here. All they want to sell is Smithfield brand. I don't buy them, they are not very good.
The brand I buy are all natural and have the best flavor of any Boston Butt I've cooked, the best marbling and least amount of thick fat inside the meat.
Well worth the little bit of extra cost.

That's bad news, that's really bad news.

Well if we can find a vacation for it I can see the wild hog populations being decimated.
