Here is an excerpt of the interview with "Ahnuld:"

YR: Some critics argue that in your movies, there's a lot of violence and killing...you smoke cigars. So how can you be a role model for kids with this kind of example?

...It's the kids that do it. They think it's cool when you have a stogie in the mouth. So when I go on the talk shows, I always tell the kids: don't smoke. Because what I do, I do to make it part of my character. It's an image thing. And the movies, with the gun in my hand? I don't run around every day with a gun in my hand. So I want kids to understand the difference: one is make-believe, like we do in movies. But in reality, I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy. I hate violence amongst the young kids...

Here is the link.

Oh great, more of the "do as I say, not as I do" kind of bullcrap! :fire:

I hope the only form of "gun control" he wants is the failure to neutralize drill - two shots to center of mass, one to the head to a criminal. :D

Not new, true. Yet for those in CA who may be drawn to Arnold by his Hollywood allure, not thinking about the issues, things like this should be pointed out.

Ronald Reagan was pro gun control, too. Passed some major gun control in California after the Black Panthers scared him with their bad-assitude.

Must be something about famous actors. They view the unwashed as, well, unwashed.

I have heard him complain about the AWB several times. Seems he feels that a ban on postol grips and bayonet lugs is stupid. Beyond that, we cannot probably be too hopeful. Still, I bet he does not actively pursue gun laws.

By the way, Cosmoline, what is your signature line all about?

Just thank God he cannot run for president! Chances are he will be the PRK's new governor. :cuss:
Anybody know where Simone stands on gun control?

I read in an interview Arnold gave to Stuff magazine that he has a large collection of rifles, pistols, and machine guns that he used in his past films. If this is true, and he is in favor of the current gun laws in Cali, he's is a hypocrite of the highest order.

The State is lost with Davis or Arnold. He won't be able to turn things around financially if elected either. No way will he be able to revoke the fat salaries of prison guards, many who make in excess of $100,000 per year or the give away to the teachers unions. Maybe if Arnold could talk Bill Gates into donating most of his fortune to the State, things might be OK. Arnold is a bigtime RINO just as Riordan is. If Bill Simon or Bill Jones get on the ballot, they would be better choices than Arnold or Dirt Bag Davis.

I wouldn't count on Davis being recalled yet either. He's a mean SOB and just may be able to stay in control. Also, now that Arnold has announced, look for Di Fi to bag the Senate and run. If she runs and wins, guns won't be a problem any more. She would sign a bill to ban everything. Certainly handguns.

Then you might have a 2nd amendment case go to the SCOTUS in about 5 years.

Emperor of Kalistan...

Hell, vote for Gary Coleman then. At least Arnie has a chance of winning, and who would you rather have- Arnie or Davis? Maybe Feinstein?

There ain't no perfect politicians, boys & girls. There is only the lesser of the evils, which is, by the way, also a pretty good definition of government in general. It beats packs of roving brigands by a pretty fair margin. At least it keeps the brigands at the capitol, where the few remaining concerned citizens can keep an eye on them.

This may be an odd thought, but does Arnie really know what the issue is about? Or is he just following the line the Brady bunch & Co fed him? :scrutiny:

I'm kind of wondering if he'd be willing to sit through a clear and coherent presentation on gun rights, CCW etc. This would include CA's 'bribe the sherrif' may-issue CCW problem (and coverup), the current FUD approach to firearms bans ('evil' assault rifles, the .50" ban attempts) and the (probably expensive) empire building (mandatory type approval?, CA's not using NICS?). Given the fiscal problems the last item might actually go over well.

It certainly appears that CA lives in interesting times.

Cheers,
ErikM

Ya, that's exactly right - we don't know WHERE his head is really at. Of COURSE he's going to make "grabber noises" - hell, so did Bush, and in a state that's repeatedly put both Boxer and DiFi in the Senate :barf: any idiot can read the writing on the wall.

First, I see no evidence Ahnuld would PUSH for gun control - the way DiFi would or Davis WILL if he's still standing when the smoke clears.

Second, any of the candidates can get huge traction among gunnies at no political cost amongst grabber voters by calling for an investigation into the CCW issue the moment they get into office. Promising to look into allegations of corruption and racism is hardly something the Dems can use against somebody.

I intend to wait until about two weeks in, see which of the three biggest GOPers are getting traction, and try and bring the issue to them.

I've seen the "Arnie is for gun control!" statement in multiple threads here, and the only source for the threads is the quote about "...I'm for gun control".

I'm no Arnold apologist or starry-eyed fan, but hold on a minute: how can you judge his complete 2ndAmendment stance based on that one quote? Can someone direct us to more substantive statements of his position?

By some people's logic here, if he supports ANY firearm regulation whatsoever, he's the devil incarnate and in bed w/ Sarah Brady (uugghh... bad image). So if he supports the law against selling handguns to minors, we should all run around screaming "GUNGRABBER!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!"?

Besides, by now you should all have an understanding of the man's ability to play headgames and "work the scene". Even if you subscribe to the ill-informed notion that he's stupid, you must acknowledge that even a musclehead knows not to give interviews saying "I want to repeal the California AWB... Molon Labe!!!" when running for office in Kali. Jeez, give us a break.

I'll hold off judgement until I hear him state his position in more detail.

Ahnuld is for gun control

If voting records and legislation is any indication, I'd have to assume that the majority of Californians are for gun control too. The beauty of this Republican form of govt. is the voters often get something close to what they want. California has some of the most restrictive gun legislation in the Nation, I have to assume it's what the residents want or it wouldn't have been authored, passed and signed into law.

You have to ask WHY the heavy gun control presently in place.

The answers are ugly.

1923 (start of the current CCW law): racism against Chinese and Mexicans.

1967 (banning open-carry): racism against blacks. Yes, the Panthers scared the hell out of the establishment. But they didn't start it. The Watts riots of '65 were caused by police brutality; when blacks in LA took to following the cops around with cameras to try and curtail further abuses (while themselves unarmed), they got the crap kicked out of them, their cameras destroyed and false criminal charges placed against them. The Panthers planned to do exactly the same thing up around Oakland/Berkeley by '66, but this time *armed* (legally) for self defense. That lead to heavy gun control in '67. The Panthers didn't turn really crazy in response until '69/70ish.

Current: truly grotesque media bias. I mean completely off-scale. You just can't imagine how bad.

:barf:

Californians support gun-control because they have been systematically
misinformed and, frankly, lack reasoning skills. Still, it's not
hopeless: even Californians retain some common sense and an awareness
that the means of self-defense might be a good thing to keep in reserve.

Arnold is a symptom of the flight from reason and personal responsibility,
a "strongman savior." That way lies the familiar path of fascism (and
I am not referring to his ethnic background but rather to the mentality
of his supporters). We have one, perhaps two, viable candidates already
in McClintock and Simon. It would be a shame if they were eclipsed
by a media-created mesomorph.

I would say most Californians are not as much for gun control as they are not against gun control.

For most, guns is simply so far down on their priority scales that a candidate taht is for or against has an equal chance of getting into office as long as he's "right" on other issues (e.g. abortion, gay-rights, welfare....).

I trust the majority of voters here as much as I'd trust Bill Clinton with my daughter.
