I just zoomed into AIM the other day to see if they had any new surplus gun lineups, and lo-and-behold they announced a recent import of Polish wz.78 military trainers.

Does anyone know much about or have experience with these 78's? I've never heard of them before and can't find much information in the internet; but their storage condition seems to be practically immaculate, they're relatively cheap, feature scope rails, heavy barrels, and have the added value of being mil-surp (hey, I like 'em).

I like the fact that they're bolt action and can actually load rounds from the magazine instead of having to be fed single-fire like some I've seen. I was holding out for getting a heavier milsurp like a K31 or SMLE No. 4, but this is just as cheap and would enable me to practice my shooting skills; maybe it's even a gun I could give to my son someday if I take proper care of it.

The asking price is 230$; what do you guys think?

i just saw those 5 mins ago and was looking at them too! id like to hear about accuracy from those who know. perhaps vs a cz 452 or the like...

+1!

Always interested in cool milsurp stuff, but unless there's more to these things than the write up says - the price seems high compared to what you can get when you catch a good sale. JMHO.

Yeah, they AK sights were a big turn off for me... and I can only imagine trying to find other magazines for it... Its still neat though.

This was designed as a trainer for AK, hence the AK sights. The sights come right off and it has scope rail milled into the top of the gun. I assume a 3/8 dovetail.

Someone was selling them at gunboards and the feedback has been very good.

I see them as collectors item (mil surplus) and a good plinker.

The sights look a bit high for good cheek weld.

I'm inclined to pass at that price too.

Besides the price, they're going to have a hard time getting milsurp collectors to buy them since they aren't C&R.

If I could get one shipped to my door for $150 I'd consider it strongly, but not if I have to go through an FFL.

I think the AK sights are interesting, which makes this rifle a curiousity. Even though I've been collecting Polish pieces, the pricing seems quite high for what these are, which kinda takes my curiousity away :p

I really like AIM, but either they, or their source, have the pricing set to high on these...
