Aiming for Center Of Mass

The CCW classes I’ve taken always stressed to seek cover, never stand still, and whenever possible attempt to retreat to safety. Tueller demonstrated the need for situational awareness, to prevent a potential threat from closing within 21 feet. Head up, dominate hand free, firearm easily accessible. Sometimes letting them know you are aware can send them off for easier prey.

I never thought about situational awareness as a deterrent. That's a good point.

If someone comes running my direction with a knife in the Walmart parking lot, without saying anything, with no other context, how do I know he's trying to stab me? Knowing my luck, if I do get my gun out, the next thing that happens is some guy behind me who was tying a TV in the back of his car, or cutting a radiator hose or some crap tells me I just pulled my gun on his brother for no reason. And WayneinFL is WayneinJail.

Are you serious? What else do you think he's doing?

You're really bending over backwards here fishing for reasons to justify the behavior of someone who is clearly up to no good.

This is one of those threads that, when I open THR up in my browser, I glance and am surprised the thread is still active.

I suspect we have run out of ways to explain why aiming at center of mass is established doctrine and will remain so until such time as technology produces self-aiming firearms.

So it seems.
