I could not find a fixed stock example, but for that kind of money, and desiring exceptional quality, I believe that any pre-ban Norinco type 56 to be one of the most superb examples of an AK type rifle today. You have to filter them, to make sure it hasn't been messed with.

Here is an under-folder.

I would take one without any hesitation at all. I've been around several, and they are rare (for me) to come by, but each one has been great craftsmanship, solid, beautiful, and function flawlessly.

And I most certainly wouldn't turn my nose up to a Polytech.

It may just be me, but it sure doesn't seem like these two get mentioned all that much, and if Norinco does come up, it seems more like its MAK-90, which is not near the same as their type 56. Again, this is to me.

Forget the money. To have something that bad ass and amazing is worth every penny. A lot of guys would be quick to trash it, and suggest an AR, but I would encourage them all to handle and fire a Norinco Type 56 and then reevaluate how they feel about it. And if it's the same, well then I'm wrong. :)

I feel like most AK's that come up in discussion are on the low end of the spectrum, thus facilitating the bad rep. Any gun show I go to has plenty of beat up WASR's, but the Norinco's are few and far between. 2 in the last 20 shows at the INDY 1500 gun show. (4 years)

Only seen one at the Louisville show. And that's a big one.

Hope I helped out some.

I would take 2 Wasrs over 1 really expensive one...... Oh wait..... I Did. ;)

Get what you want, but as far as AK rifles go, the nicer ones look better, but may not function any different. I had a Polytech and it shot the same as a wasr does. The bluing was nice!

Except that one man's "bad ass and amazing" is another man's "looks like ass, and idiotic".

Right. But it's his money and his opinion that matters. I wasn't suggesting that what I linked was the only choice, I was referring more to his situation of desiring a more expensive rifle and others suggesting it was uncalled for.

We could say the same thing about any obtainable object.

You won't miss the money when you are happy every time you look at it.

how hard would it be to buy a new chrome lined barrel and get a gunsmith to install it?

Again, can someone PLEASE tell me:

Polish 1960, or C39 sporter?

All I can really tell is they are both milled and the C39 has Picatinny rails.

1960 vs C39?

C'mon dude.

Pick a thread and stick with it.

Which thread is it going to be? This one or this one?

$1400 for a less than MOA rifle with bad ergos, sights and a chincy stock that proportionally will only work if you're twelve years old or a dwarf is absolute crazy sauce.

You know what's "badass"?

Spending the $1400 on a rifle that's capable of repeatedly hitting a ten inch plate at 300 yards from improvised field positions.
