Hey guys and gals!
I just picked up a Romanian AK kit for an insanely cheap price (1983 make w/ all matching numbers). Always wanted to build an AK and this gave me the perfect excuse to tinker with one. I was an armorer in the Army so I am familiar with the basics.
Here is where I want your assistance. To be legal there are several things I need to get, new receiver, trigger assy, stocks and so forth. I am thinking of building a modern "tactical" EBR rather than a classic wood-stocked AK.
For reveivers the choices go from 20 dollar flats that I have to fold and install rails on clear up to full "bolt-on" units that I would have to transfer via an FFL. What have you guys used? Any particular thing to look for?
For the trigger, I figured I would go with a G2 setup from Tapco. Which ones have you guys used? Adjustable .vs mil-spec? Thoughts?
The tough one, rivets or screws? Are rivets hard to do? Are the screw kits as nice as the seem?
Then finally furniture. I am going to use synthetics, but I want a set that feels good and solid. Any suggestions?
As a side question...I read on the net that there is a difference in the commercial-grade Romanian AKs and the military-grade parts kits? Any truth to this? your thoughts and opinions? Oh, anyone know how to interpret the markings on this thing?
