Im interested in a few different Ak bullpups, type-86 bullpup. I dont see them for sale. Were they sold to civis? I like the valmet M82 but they dont appear to be available to anyone either. I really like Smokeys AK47 Bullpup Kit but since Im sort of new to AKs, what else is needed to make a complete rifle?

Id get a muzzelite but I have heard some horror stories about quality. And the sights are a little high up. Plus Id probably just get a mini14 or something if I was gonna get a muzzelite

Anyone know if you can use 5.45 or 5.56 AKs with the smokeys bullpup?

I'm googling "Smokey AK bullpup", but all I'm getting is Airsoft gear. Do they also make a stock set for real AKs?

I believe KVAR used to make an AK bullpup stock set, of patchy reputation. There are a few writeups about it on THR that you can look up.

Muzzlelite: I've shot their 10/22 version, and was terribly unimpressed by it. Felt flimsy and had a horrendous trigger. I am looking seriously at Dixie Consolidated's 10/22 bullpup kit, which is getting great reviews on Rimfirecentral.com, but they don't cover any model besides the 10/22 yet.

If anyone ever markets a successful AK bullpup adaptation in the U.S., I expect there will be a pretty good market for it. Not on a huge scale, but it's out there.

Muzzlite (spelling)

I have a Muzzlite bulpup stock for my Camp 9 carbine. The first thing I did was to throw away the trigger bar spring. I cleaned up the bar and greased it and found a much lighter spring and it works pretty well now.

From what I understand the toy-like feeling is common. I dont hate the look so thats too bad. I suppose it could be fixed with some supports or something as it is basically a hollow shell.

took me half an hour to find this on my computer

so u better like it. some home made convevrsion i think was posted on gun broker. not too bad?

That's pretty darn good. Although the scope is a joke. A unity power red-dot would be much more practical.

I would think that a trigger linkage that's as stiff as possible, and perhaps on small roller bearings would make the trigger pull passable.

The forestock is pretty nice. I would however, carve out the foregrip a bit so that it had a finger ridge kind of like an MP5K so that your hand couldn't slip in front of the muzzle.

The biggest problem I see with AK based bullpups is the angled rock-in style magazines. it provides little clearance with the forward pistol grip. The slide-in AR style magazine is much better suited for any bullpup layout, IMO

I have an 86S - which is a bullpup made by Norinco which was imported just before the Chinese ban - there are less than 1000 in the country, and I'm lucky enough to have one with a serial # below 50, in the box with all the accesories.

They don't come cheap, I paid close to $2K for mine, but there isn't going to be any devaluation, so I'm not too worried (also, I really bought it because I am a Kalashnikov collector and a lover of bullpups).

The mag problem isn't as bad as mentioned above, but the normal drum mags don't work all that well in the 86S and basically require you to hold the rifle oddly.

Also, whoever the idiot is that butchered the 86S above really deserves a special place next to Judas Iscariot in the Inferno.

I doubt thats a 86S, the rivet pattern isnt chinese.

I'd love one of the real ones, but not having money sucks.

K-var sells a kit, but I hear it's cheaply made. Most of the guys doing bullpup builds are modifying AMD lower handguards to accept a triiger and using music wire to like the trigger. There are recent posts in the build sections of gunco and AR15.com that go into more detail.

Several guys over on GB have done AK pups' but they are one off custom jobs. +1 on the crappy trigger pull. I put a mini-14 into a pup stock and HATED it. I screwed with it for about three weeks trying to improve it and just coudnt help it.

While I can't be sure, I do think that is an 86S, the butt of the rifle looks like the 86S.

Also, I've seen an 86S that was fully nickel coated (or chromed or something) - it was the ugliest gun I had ever seen until I saw the gold tiger striped Desert Eagles.

If I recall correctly, that's a MAADI bullpup pictured above. Produced during the AWB, hence the thumbhole stock.
