AK parts kit assembly

What are your thoughts on manufacturing an AK from a parts kit and receiver flat? It appears to be fairly simple - I have access to bending and heat-treating equipment, and I'm thinking about getting the pieces and trying my hand at it. Seems like a great way to learn a lot, get a cheap rifle, and have fun all at the same time. Has anyone done it? Good idea? Bad idea? Anything I ought to know beforehand?

Yeah, I've wondered about this too. Anyone know a good how-to website or book? Like to see pics of the assembly.

Depending on the kit, you have to have a multi-ton press to fit the barrel and the rivets, it apparently ISN'T just a matter of welding and assembling.

In any event, the people on the AK site have all the info needed, and welcome questions.
