Was hoping to tame down a 12bbl AK. I tried venting the surplus gas & running factory ammo, but thats not been working out well. Has Anybody handloaded these to reduce recoil & perhaps not have the BCG smack the rear trunion so hard? Really, it seems the overgassing (carrier hitting the reciever) gives more felt recoil then the actual recoil.

The reloads for my pistol could use a lighter load because of the fire ball out the end of the barrel.
But would you go to a faster burning powder with lower gr weight or just less powder?

I put a KNS adjustable piston in my 16” AK. Noticeably reduced recoil. They make them for pistols also. Highly recommended.
You could always load lighter rounds, lower charge weight and/or faster powders, but you’re always gonna have a loud flame thrower with short barrels.
You could suppress it to tame the blast. Then the KNS would be highly desirable to deal with the added back pressure

I would go with adjustable gas first.
Then I would move to IMR4227 or similar to lower the gas volume if I wasn't happy with the results.

I have a 10 inch barrel AR 15 in 7.62x39 and love it. As I recall, I put in the heavier buffer but have a basic gas block (not adjustable), and a basic compensator, and I don't have problems with it being over-gassed or slaming the bcg. I would guess you need to turn down the gas somehow (sorry, I don't know how AK's work). I also reload, and use a faster powder (Shooter's world Blackout) to get great results and little recoil. Good luck.

I would do either. Not sure what that gas system would respond to.
I guess if blast was the issue, id try a faster powder. Im

Im not big on aftermarket products. If i cant make it work w a drill & a few hammers, it wasnt worth doing.

Drilling a few tiny holes in the gas tube right behind where the tube fits the gas block is an idea. Had an SKS back in the day that was over gassed that I cured this way. Used the smallest bit, like 1/16, and punched two holes 1/4" back from the block worked like a charm.

Im building it as a pistol for vehicle defense. Will be installing a BFD and would like all the gas to vent into it.

H-4198 down loads very well in 7.62x39 with 123gr bullets.
I was working on a load for plated Xtreme 123gr with a speed limit of 2,000fps 18.5gr of H-4198 had the shell casing dropping a few feet away and cycled the action of a SKS.
I think I went with 19gr and kept below 2,000fps.

I just ordered 50 cases. Finally blow the dust off the primers ive had for years. Have several suitable bullet types on hand.
