Purchased a custom made AK underfolder from an armorer locally.
Unfortunately all i recall is it was made from "hungarian parts kit"

Unique indentifying Features:
-Non chrome lined barrel.
-Beechwood foregrip and pistol grip
- No bayonet lug nor side mount for scope
-interesting lines in top of dust cover.
Best i can come up with is this is an AK 63.
I thought in sand color and 10- Izzy bakelite mags this gun was a just gorgeous addition to my remarkably all black arsenal.

If it's 7.62, call it an AK47. If it's 5.56, call it an AK74. Either way, you can just call it an AK. Anything further is pedantic.

Your post adds nothing to the conversation and helps out none whatsoever And Ak-74s are chambered in 5.45 not 5.56.(generally speaking)
Lastly anybody who knows AK patterns already knows this is 7.62 caliber just from a glance at the picture, obviously you cannot.:D

Which is why I posted; FWIW, some AK-74 kits have been built in 5.56, and there are new-build 5.56 AK's out there, too.

AMD-63's usually had fore end wood with a pistol grip on it, though not all. Come to think of it, beech would probably be correct for Hungarian AK's also.

Well, I certainly apologize for rubbing you the wrong way. Good luck.

Back when Romanian G parts kits were cheap ($60-$125) and came with their original barrels, I built my own under folder out of one of those kits. I used a No Dak Spud Premium receiver and a rear underfolder trunion that I found on gunbroker. Came out pretty good.

If nothing else it reminds me how much I hated shooting with underfolding stocks.

In the below pic, while living in Illinois, I built the 2 on the far left and the 2 on the far right.
The middle AK is my SAR1 dated 2001. I hand formed all my rivets with a hammer and a punch. Plus got a couple pointers from Marc Krebs of Krebs Custom. He also pressed out 2 of the barrels for me as well.

Nothing wrong with Hungarian AKM's.
Obviously you cant have a side mount scope rail with an under folding stock. The 2 don't work together.

Your picture is small but it sure looks to me like you have a bayonet lug on there. The lug is 1/2 down the barrel and keeps the cleaning rod in place. Unless it was ground down (like on my Sar1) it should work for a bayonet.

Hungarians made some of the better AKs, I think. I think the Yugo variants deviated the most from the bog-standard designs-some of them have parts that won’t fit other AKs.

Since euro AKM parts are so interchangeable it’d hard to tell what yours actually started out as in service without some study. You’d need to get all the info off the trunnion and work to that, because that’s the heart of the gun.

If you have to call it something other than AK, it is an AKM variant. Your build seems quite nice, and I would just take it for what it is-a good looking shooter that won’t let you down.

Polish underfolder AKM. The beech forgrips and pistol grip give it away.

And no, anything further is NOT pedantic. My 7.62x39 rifle is an AMD-65, not an AK47.

Anything further would be correct nomenclature. (minus the giggle switch and adding enough parts for 922c.)
Not Polish... Polish AKM wood is usually laminated, don't have a vented gas tube, don't have a square hole in the front sight(usually rounded corners).

Looks just like an AMD-63 Underfolder sold here

Yes, I believe you're right about the laminated....I agree, it seems to be an AMD-63; I'm not as familiar with them, I built several AMD-65's, which, of course, have no wood whatsoever and require either gloves, or like my friend Louie improvised while shooting mine......

a shop rag works ok.

I get what The Warhammer was trying to say, and he wasn’t wrong. You can tell by looking at the angle of the mag that the OP’s is indeed chambered in 762x39 and would generically fall under the AK-47, opposed to the smaller later chamberings of the AK-74s. Most are AKMs, which are the modern stamped sheet metal receiver types, which most of us own. Right or wrong, I still consider my Milled MAK90 an AK-47, even though it’s reverse engineered, and a lot of the parts are bastard size, won’t fit on an AKM.

Looks a lot like my AK63DS (stamped receiver) and most AK63Ds I’ve seen which had milled receivers. All of these were Hungarian UF kit builds.
Usually I immediately swap a factory grip for something aftermarket but that slab sided grip actually fits pretty well.
