Anyone heard of this rifle? I saw it on AIM Surplus' web site. I thought someone else may have heard of it. It doesn't appear to be a WASR but given the price, I wasn't sure if it would be any better.

AK-STG-2000-C Romanian STG-2000C 7.62x39 Rifle

Item#AK-STG-2000-C
New Romanian STG-2000 7.62x39 "AK type" Rifle. Designed after the famous German "Wieger" Rifle. This Rifle features a hammer forged, chrome lined barrel, non-slap trigger components, side scope rail, and M16 style muzzle break. Includes accessories as shown, small tools may differ slightly in appearance.
Price: $349.95

I couldn't copy the picture location, but use the above link.

They are assembled by Interordnance.

I ordered one from AIM and had to send it back.
The gas tube release lever was broken.

Other than that it's a standard Romanian AK with fancy furniture.
It uses polymer mags and they recomend using only poly mags for it.
We'll see about that.
I'm expecting a replacement soon.
Other than the one flaw the rifle was real nice and felt good in the hands.

I just saw the ad this morning. Both my AK's were Romanians, and I never had a problem with either.
Karl, please let us know how this gun shoots, etc.
Thanks.

Mark

I've got a WASR 2 that is decent except for excessive mag wobble. I have found that I can use wider polymer mags that are large than the bakelite mags and get reliable function. It is pretty accurate considering the crude sights.

AK-STG-2000-C Romanian STG-2000C

I recently decided to look around for an inexpensive "AK" type weapon. I purchased the STG-2000 a few weeks ago and recently took it to the range. Most of what other posters have said about the weapon in general is true however I was extremely impressed by it's range performance . It's not a tack driver by any means but it's sturdy enough, didn't malfunction once after 500 plus rounds and will easily shoot 2.5 inch groups if you have good marksmanship skills. Would I trust my life to it in a firefight in Iraq??? I'd rather not! But, if you want a fun to shoot sturdy little toy, I give it a thumbs up all around. Oh, one thing. The polymer mags aren's the greatest but they are cheap enough to replace when needed. See you at the range again this weekend, with my STG-2000!

They are a lot better then the WASR's

I have one in .223 and would take it over a WASR-3 any day.

For an out of the box, baseline AK you cannot beat the "STG-2000C" for $349

The polymer mag thing is a bunch of BS. Both of mine came from I.O. with Romanian mil-surp steel mags.

Jeebus.

You'd think they would at least spell Muzzle Brake correctly. :scrutiny:

Looks like a plastic-stocked SAR-1, with an attempt to imitate an integral front sight tower and gas block.

It may not even be a one-piece unit, the gas block could be hidden under the lengthened handguards, which then butt up against a standard AK front sight tower.

Actually they are built at Sadar Arsenal Romania right a;longside the WASR which is built for Century, same reciever, same labor, same parts other than the plastic furniture and using a different FSB/GB combination, One of my aunts works at the Sadu arsenal when I/O First started marketing them I called to ask about them she said everything comes from the same parts bins other than the furniture, the brake and the FSB/GB the furniture is supplied by I/O however and not made in country, as for better workmanship than a WASR ..... exact same employees depending on how early or late they arrive decides which assembly line they work on that day and at what assembly station some days my aunt works on WASRs for Century and in the afternoon she might be moved to the lines for the I/O rifles......... the recievers, barrels etc... all come outa the same large poly bins

I just got a stg 2000. It is of the same fit and finish as my (or should say wifes) SAR 1. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, (hunting season).

My initial impression is good. The gas block looks like the one used on the AK 103. It seems to be put together well. It has a chromed lined chamber and barrel. If I have any reservations it's the the hand guards can not be replaced with any of the traditional guards.

It may not even be a one-piece unit, the gas block could be hidden under the lengthened handguards, which then butt up against a standard AK front sight tower.

Wrong. They do still have the locking tabs for the regular AKM style handguard machined into the barrell under the handguards though. The gas tube and gas block are totally diffrent then the std. AKM types. They are also not made at Sadu, at least not according to the markings or I.O., they are made at Cugir.

Also, the WASR's have the orriginal hot-blue milled off of both the mag well and the "spring" magazine guides where they have been blued as 10 rounders, then opened up. The STG's from I.O. (in addition to the front end being totally diffrent, the laser etching machine that marks them running at a diffrent feed rate, and the muzzle being threaded with 1/2x28 under the flash hider) have the same layer of hot-blue on the inside edges of the finished mag well that is on the in and exterior of the rest of the gun.

I have one thing to add to this thread... My first couple of trips to the range were wonderful. However, the last trip I couldn't get more than 1-2 shots off before the weapon malfunctioned. Basically it wouldn't feed. I use a VERY reputable dealer "Collector's Firearms" in Houston. They have a full time gunsmith and when I called the owner he said to bring the weapon back and he would do WHATEVER it took to fix the problem, including replacing the entire weapon if necessary. It turns out that the "Pro-Mag" clear poly magazine my weapon came with is a piece of junk. They wear out VERY quickly. The owner comped me a new, better poly mag plus a steel one and I am back in business! He also said he would contact his supplier and tell them not to ship any more units with the cheap mags. Anyway, I just got back from the range and ran 200 rounds through the weapon with no problems. I really do love this little weapon. Cheap to buy, shoot, maintain, etc. For sporting (fun) purposes, one of the best purchases I have ever made!!!

are these not supose to use pro mags or is it normal to have a good half inch of play side to side in the mag?
