With all the hoopla going on over braces and ghost guns I was thinking about the AK MAKs and others that came in with thumb hole stocks. So you buy a set of stocks at a flea market how can anyone tell they were not made in the USA? If its not stamped made in China or Vietnam or other how on earth do you prove this or that was not made in the USA? Has anyone ever been convicted or even charged for this?

castile: The ATF has taken nobody to court for simply swapping parts, unless....they are Already charged with a true felony, i.e. human trafficking, conspiracy to distribute narcotics etc.
The regs were created for importers/builders, to protect the many companies trying to sell substitute parts in the US. Maybe you knew some of this—-

Did you know that the ATF's "922r" says Nothing about any part needing info such as "made in the US" ? This based on years of reading AKfiles, and also reading "Mishaco's" comments. He's a very seasoned "human encyclopedia" FFL about AKMs, and has chatted with ATF agents about this. One or two....agents.... did not want people to waste their time over something which is a non-issue.

Misha even stated that some importers who were mistaken about their 'parts count's were fined. That was all.

You might contemplate the likelihood that the people with the main motivation -- to concern you with innuendos, half-truths (or lies) about 922r -- are probably the hundreds of gun component sellers in the US.
Their sales depend partly upon scaring the gullible and novices.

This is my thought exactly. I get a lot of old gun guys who will tell me the invisible ATF Minority Report can see and tell what country your AK hammer was made in. Unless its stamped USA or China or some other country then its impossible to tell. So you buy a hammer at a gun show and the guy tells you its made in the USA and he really bought a box from China. No one will ever know. All this BS on you must have this many parts made in the USA always reeked of paranoia. Just like when some old gun guy tells me WD40 is water based and will rust your gun or that it will dry and leave a gum behind and ruin your gun. Total BS crap for the septic tank. First off who in the ATF would even take an AK apart and even look for makers marks and to do so you must have already some thing they are looking at your for that makes this seem like Jwalking. You can not tell an old dog anything. I have even done tests on WD where I took a quarter cup and let it sit out for several months and what I get is nothing but a three in one type oil. No gum no nothing but after the solvent is gone an oil. Which the WD company says its solvents and lubricants. But trying to tell someone that the 19 dollar bottle of super slip magic gun lube is really no better than plain old three in one and maybe not even as good they act like you said their mother was a street walker.
