i've been trying to invest in some ak47 steel mags but have not found a reasonable price. i recently came across some korean surplus mags for 6.99 each for three or more. what do you guys think? i was thinking about buying like 10 to see how they look and work if good then another dozen or so...

or if anyone knows of a better mag or deal. i'm trying to stay away from plastics like tapco because i have had good experience with steel mags. thanks.

The Korean mags are junk.

Stick to the Eastern European Comblock steel mags.

You can thank me later.

I have over 1k rounds thru my korean mag and not one hangup or malfunction they do seem to attract rust quicker than the euro mags but i wouldnt hesitate to buy more korean mags.

The Korean mags are junk.

Not mine, they function as good as any other comblock mags I have meaning no issues in a variety of AKs -- Wasr, Mini-Draco, Norinco, converted Siaga. But the gray parkerizing is pretty ugly and not well done (see the rust quicker comment above), probably why they are "surplus". But then ugly looks good on an AK :)

Maybe if you have a "high quality" American made AK they won't work :)

For $7 give a couple a try, you are only out the price of a Pro-MAg and I'll bet it'll be better than that. Then stock up if what they are selling now are as good as what I got. Mine were $5 each before Sandy Hook.

Korean mags are on and off. Out of the 2 I own, both never work reliably for a full magazine. Stick with European surplus.

If you are referring to that same Korean manufacturer that makes replica Glock magazines and Beta C mag copies, AVOID.
I'm pretty sure Triple K bought a factory over there,,,

Worth buying a couple and checking.
I had one that wouldn't go through a mag without tossing a round up sideways. I'm thinking it's because it doesn't have thicker metal where it was supposed to, they just put an extra layer on.
I knocked the sharp edges off with a file, bent the feed lips a hair to match my Romanian ones, and anointed it in blood (while extracting its final jam) and it just felt a little rough, but worked after that.
I doubt that they're invariably junk, just more prone to being junk.

My favorite AK mags are the blued steel Yugo mags with the bolt hold-open follower. They can be had used for $14 or so, but if you are expecting $7 mags, then you may find this price disagreeable. Personally, I don't look at AK mags as throw-away items, so nice ones are worth a little bit extra up front. I don't share the same outlook for USGI AR15 mags.

Has anyone besides me tried the Magpul AK mags? So far they have fed and functioned just fine. Local shop had them for $15 each so I grabbed a couple. I like them better than the 1 Tapco mag that the rifle came with.

Look for some of the welded steel 20 rnd Bulgarian "tanker" mags. That what they called them. Best mags i ever had and you could drive a truck over them. Never, ever jam. They used to sell for 3.99 in VG used condition from CTD. Good luck now.
