I’m a cowboy Action shooter. A couple of years ago I dipped my toe into the “Frontier Cartridge” categories; at the suggestion of a friend who has lots of experience with black powder and BP subs I bought some APP locally and used it to load .38 Special cartridges and 12 gauge shells. I went through pounds of powder at a much higher rate compared to the powders I was used to.

Not long ago I learned that Alliant Black MZ is the same product as 2F APP and although that powder apparently has been discontinued, it is available from Sportsmans Warehouse for $9.99/pound! Whenever I am near one of the SW stores Ibstop in and pick up a few cans. I bought three more pounds today. Hey, buy it cheap and stack it deep, right?

It's amazing that the Sportsmans Warehouse has had it available for so long at close out prices.
They must have sold a warehouse full of it by now.
Who would have thought that Alliant had invested so heavily in it when APP itself never seemed to be very popular?

I really like the stuff myself. Every time I go to Twin Falls for a Costco run I pick up a couple of pounds.

Haven't tried it in a rocklock as of yet. One may have to put a small charge of black powder under the Black MZ. To me thats more hassle than it's worth. It's great in a cap gun.

Hey Mauser, are you using a primer charge under the main one or just all black mz? I have been wanting to try it in my flinters but haven't had the chance yet.

Straight mz.
If the flint gets a bit dull it really increased the chances of a mis-fire.
I tried it in the pedersoli 50 flinter I have but I can't remember how well it worked in her.

The Bess stood out in my memory in it working out surprisingly well.
