Looking around at a local gun store the other day, I spied an older style Ruger SP101 with a 3" barrel and a windage adjustable rear sight (I find the newer, updated SP101 Rugers to be less appealing). I glanced at the price which was around $475, which I didn't think was a great deal, so I kept moving. It wasn't until I got home it stuck me that the only 3" SP101's I've ever seen with a windage adjustable rear sight is the very difficult to find (around here anyway) Ruger SP101 chambered in 327 Federal Magnum! A gun, that is Gunbroker is to be trusted, is worth quite a bit more than $475 (and worth at least that much to me!). Unfortunately, the next day, the gun store was closed (they are always closed on Tuesdays). This afternoon (Wednesday), I ran back over to the gun store on my lunch and sure enough, it was a 327 Federal Magnum Ruger SP101 (and not the new one, which I find less appealing than the old one). Needless to say, I bought the sucker! It came with the box and all of the trimmings (except the factory grip, which had been replaced with a Hogue mono-grip...but for $12.00 eBay took care of me).

Yeah, I was excited to add another 327 Federal magnum to my collection (which now consists of 2 327 Federal Magnums, but hey, Rome wasn't built in a day...)

Congrats! Does it have a firing pin? :)

I had a similar experience a week or two ago. 3" barrel windage adjustable .327 fed sp-101. In my case I gave it a once over, realized it was new old stock/unfired, complete package down to the plastic ring that shows the gun is unloaded, and I was so quick to lay my money down I didn't even notice an issue until I had it home. No firing pin. I am awaiting a call to let me know it is back from the big R.

I think the fact that Ruger is making them again is causing a few older models to show up on the market.

That makes two for me as well... Single seven and sp-101.

I don't know that I checked for a firing pin, but next time I walk past the safe, I'll verify!!

Yours is probably safe. I just thought it was funny. :)

The going theory is that I got a gun Ruger took to a trade show (e.g. SHOT), where they pulled the firing pin, then after the show they tossed it in a back room for a few years before selling.

Nice find man. Congrats! I had a chance to buy one when they were still produced back in the day, and I've been kicking myself ever since I didn't.

Nice find. I too am a fan of the .327. I have a 3" SP101 like you, and a 7 1/2" Single Seven. I am always on the lookout for a GP100 or Blackhawk but the prices are crazy.

I would have snapped that up in an instant also. I currently have 2 .327's but don't have the Ruger - yet. Also have one in .32H&R and one in .32S&W long, and a few .32acp's. Loves me some .32.

I believe the early 22LR SP101s had an adjustable rear sight (for windage) also.

I just read that a little bit ago as well. I guess the 22lr and the 32 H&R both have an adjustable rear sight blade. I probably would have bought a 32H&R SP101 if that's what it had been, not sure about a 22lr, at least not for $475.
