Which Republican out there is the most strongly pro-gun of Republicans who you would rather see in the White House than Bush? It doesn't have to be anyone that has even the remotest chance of winning the election or even unseating Bush. I'm just looking to see if we can come up with the name of a Republican politician on whom we could all agree would be someone we would like to see as President based on his 2A stand.

Larry Craig? US Senator from Idaho

Ron Paul? US Representative from Texas I believe. My apologies if I have that wrong.

This is a serious question. The Nuge isn't a politician and while we could all say "Me", the majority of us aren't politicians. I'm looking for someone who is readily identifiable as pro-gun whose name, if it started showing up on write-in ballots would cause the Republicans to realize that we aren't happy with what's going on. I'm trying to come up with the most common choice for this.

Oh, yeah, unless they are a household name, please state who they are as was done with Tom McClintock (CA State Senator)

Is Colin Powell well known as a 2A supporter?

At the national level, Condi Rice is known to be pro-gun.

Could you imagine the Left's reaction if there was a black, female, pro-gun President in office? I think it'd be classic.

She could capture some of the black vote, the women's vote and the pro-gun vote. She'd be tough to beat given a good platform to run on.

A Democrat in the old mold. Senator Zell Miller of Georgia. Ex-Marine and Governor of Georgia. He basically hates the current lefty Democratic Party.

How would they label her? Would they say she was an Aunt Thomasina, NASCAR MOM, Red Neck, Bubbina, Right wing militia member type? Oh, it would no doubt be rich watching the anti gun, leftwing folks try and label her.

As much as I like him, he is not pro-gun.

Colin Powell is NOT a friend of ours! He is not a friend of America. He is a globalist. The sooner he's out of power the better.

Alan Keyes

The guy is an absolutely gifted orator, and he's about a Republican as a Republican can be.

I used to agree, until he came down on the side of soldiers obeying ALL orders, lawful or not. (The Michael New case.) I believe what he said was, "We can't have ordinary soldiers deciding for themselves which orders are lawful and which are not!"

Wrong, Alan. We MUST have ordinary soldiers deciding for themselves which orders are lawful and which are not. Witness the "I was only following orders!" excuse used at the Nazi trials. We didn't accept it then.

And we heard it again from Iraq. Abu Ghraib prison, anyone?

I'll vote for Condi. Like Sean Smith said.... :D

grnzbra, the sad truth is, there really isn't anyone on the horizon who can fill the bill. Yes, some very good people have been mentioned (like Ron Paul), but there's nobody who can generate a serious following.

Condi could in a few years, perhaps.

A curious question about Bush and gun owners: When Al Gore went too far with gun control, moderate Democrats and Republicans abandoned him allowing Bush a victory. If Bush were to go too far with gun control, such as a public statement that he would sign the AWB, should conservative gun owners abandon him as well? I know the alternative is Kerry, but for the Democrats who abandoned Gore, didn't they know that their alternative was Bush. Who stood for what they believed in? Many Democrats, as it would appear. They sacrificed their party loyalty for their rights. Good for them. I think that they were right in doing so. Are they more courageous than Republicans who state that we must vote for Bush, even if he isn't a good steward of our civil rights, because the alternative, Kerry, would be so much worse. Something to think about as we approach November.

ENOUGH EXCUSES!

As I said, they don't have to have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. All they have to be is very pro-2A and a Republican who would be known by the Republican party's leadership.

STOP THINKING NEGATIVE! Please, no more reasons for "can't". The only reason for "can't" for what I want is lies with us. If we all think we can't, we're right.

Just play with me for a little while on this. Trust me:evil:

Oh, and please don't hijack the thread; we all know there are good reasons to refrain from voting for Bush. That's not where I am trying to go with this. Just go along with this as its laid out. If, such as Powell, there's a reason not to consider a particular person who has been named, based on 2A, say so. I'm just trying to see if there is someone (it needs to be a Republican my idea won't work) that we (participants in several boards on which I have posted this question) can agree upon.

With all due respect, Bush gave AWB lip service and that was it. If he had actually wanted and really supported it, we would have a renewal by now because many republicans would follow his lead. Instead he said "well if it gets to my desk I'll sign it." Do you know the difference between a bill that gets to the floor of congress and one that dies in committee? Presidential support. Last count at least 2 bills have died in committee.

I'd like to see Condi Rice run for Veep in the near future. The first black, woman VP or President would be a Republican. I love it!

Put me down for Condi Rice ... aside from being pro RKBA she's very capable in other areas (areas where I don't believe Powell or Keyes would have the slightest idea which way was up).

Another good choice would be J.C. Watts, but for some reason I think he'd rather be the governor of Oklahoma :scrutiny:

I just noticed all the candidates I discussed where Black ... more proof that Republicans are racist :neener:

Ron paul congressman from texas. As far as I can tell he is the only one in congress that still believes in following the constitution.

I don't know enough about her stances on enough different issues to say I'd vote for her at theis point, but what I do know is awfully encouraging.

Does she have enough leadership experience for the job though? Her roles that I know of tend to be more along the role of advisor.

What's her home state? Maybe she can run for Govenor so we can get a better idea of her potential. :)

Better to concentrate on individual Congressmen and Senators, IMHO. They are the ones who MAKE the anti-gun legislation.

She has said she needs wants some kind of executive position, like maybe Governor, but she's from California. I think the Arnold thing may have put a monkey wrench into plans to run her there.
