The Nosler Partition has been discontinued by Federal in 7-08. I'm very disappointed by this, as I've taken 16 or so KY whitetails with it with fantastic results. Love the construction of them and it's as if they're poison tipped! Never had one go very far. Absolutely love em.

Anyway, I'm looking for a suitable, comparable replacement bullet. I contacted Federal ('cause I like Federal ammo in general) with this question; their response was the Fusion, but I'm not a fan.

Thanks up front folks, and good luck this season! (I have 9 cartridges left of my Partitions, I should have stocked up!!)

I suppose in your shoes I would haunt gunbroker for the bullets you like. Failing that, how about the Barnes TTSX?

For what you're doing just go with the much cheaper Ballistic Tips. They cost almost 1/2 what Accubonds or Partitions cost and tend to be more accurate than either. Nosler responded to complaints about over expansion several years back and started making the jackets thicker on the Ballistic Tips. As long as you stay away with light for caliber bullets they are now giving about the same penetration as either the Accubond or Partition.

reload your own partitions then

No time like the present to load your own, especially on expensive hunting ammo. There is a lot of cost savings that can happen when the alternative is paying $2-3 per shot for premium hunting ammo.

A very simple reloading setup with basics can be had for $250 including dies for a single cartridge. Make a small portable reloading press mount out of double laminated 3/4" plywood that can be clamped to a kitchen table or desk and away you go, and when finished it all gets stored in a closet. ...or at least that's how reloading all starts.

No, I don't reload.

I appreciate the responses, guys. Hopefully I'll be able to buy stuff in the offseason. Leaning toward the Accubonds.

btw, shooting a Browning BLR...

Welcome to THR!

The Accubond bullets are a good choice. For deer with a 7mm-08 there are a lot of good choices. Not sure how your local gun shops are stocked with ammo with the current environment. I would see what is available to start.
I used 140 grain Winchester power points in my 7mm-08 BLR. Worked fine on whitetails.
You may also want to look at the Federal nontypicals some of the group has recommended them for deer.
Good luck in your search.

$250???? A LEE hand-press, set of dies, and a hand-priming tool will come in WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY under that. :) Just a thought.

If that were the only way to load, I'd just buy ammo.
Forget a hand press. If like them great, but I'm not working that hard or taking that long.

For the OP, with a 7mm bullet going that fast, if you're just hunting whitetails, any cup and core bullet will work fine.
If you just like a heavier constructed bullet, Swift A-frames come to mind. Remington used to offer some factory loadings with Swift bullets. Not sure if they still do.

Interesting. I sent an email early this year, before the pandemic pandemonium, to Vista Outdoors about low availability of 7mm-08 Federal Premium ammunition loaded with 140 grain Nosler Partition bullets, and I specifically asked if this option was being discontinued. The response I received claimed there were zero plans to discontinue this option and they have too much strong sales demand to even consider discontinuing this offering. This was explained as a temporary disconnect in the supply chain and assured me this ammunition would soon be available again at the retail level.

I adopted a wait & see attitude and purchased what little such ammunition I found available, 2 or 3 boxes, at the time. Thanks for as Paul Harvey would have said, the rest of the story.

I hope that's the case, but they are not listed on Federal's website and numerous retailers show them 'discontinued'. If they show up, rest assured I'll happily stock up. That bullet is genius, and I've seen over and over how it performs. Just gotta get comfortable with something else, damnit.

I'm bummed such an effective tool is no longer available in the 7-08; cheaper to make the Accubond apparently, and folks seem to want the pointy tips nowadays. Another (smaller) part of me looks forward to wringing out the AB though. It would help if the 7-08 would get its proper due; it likely has cemented from a public viewpoint as a women/youth caliber. Has a somewhat awkward name, too. It's just a shame; it's so good.

I do need to look into the Swift stuff. Thanks!

I haven't done math, but I don't think that number is all that far off. dies, hand primer, scale. I use seperate powder pourer. Lee classic. Hand primer, manual or three, and cheap electric scale. Other stuff you can or cannot get. I don't think way, way, ect is accurate.

Plus the more I load, the more nerdy gadgets I like to make it easier and better.

Though if you don't want to reload, and just hunting white tails, there are tons of store bullets to try. I am sure your rifle will like one. I really can't tell difference between partion and coreloct.

I doubted that story when I received it from Vista Outdoors although it would be interesting to see what formal response they might provide now if you sent the same question, especially since you're seeing it listed as "Discontinued" at some distributors / retailers.

It's interesting as the Federal 7mm-08 ammunition loaded with the 140 grain Accubond is coded "P708A1" as the prior Federal 7mm-08 ammunition loaded with the 140 grain Partition was coded "P708A". The P708A1 offering wasn't shown on Federal's website when I asked my question but the P708A offering was still on Federal's website. But the site still showed the red box graphics for the P708A offering while everything else in Federal Premium 7mm-08 showed the latest gold package graphics back then.

My memory finally came through. I knew I'd seen another company offering 140 grain Partition factory 7mm-08 ammunition: Choice Ammunition is the company, woth a published muzzle velocity of 2900 fps, currently $46 / box of 20 cartridges, but also currently showing on backorder (can be ordered on backorder). I'd been trying to remember the company name since first seeing this thread.

For the 140 grain Accubond in 7mm-08 factory ammunition Underwood has an offering with a published muzzle velocity of 2950 fps. It's currently out of stock (like so many other factory ammunition offerings ATM).
