I'm attempting to sell my .30-30 locally to avoid ffl and shipping hassle. It's a coast to coast 843, aka a savage 840. Wood is great. Bluing is great, except om the bolt and a small bit of wear on the muzzle. 1.5 boxes of corelokts, lyman die, lee hand trimmer pilot and shell holder. 1.5x weaver scope, correct timeframe for the rifle.

what would you guys say it is worth (remember, no ffl or shipping on thid one). I suspect it,s a little high, but I see em going for just a little less with much more wear.

bill, I wanted blind appraisals. If I said a price, it might distort the estimates. 275 but I'm thinking about dropping it to 250.

dm that assumes people will make honest offers. A nib noveski would easily be worth 1k, but it might take a little while to find someone who can drop that on a whim... Which is what want ads generally are.

It should easily sell for $250 with your accessories. But, a lot of it has to do with where it is? Our local consignment FFL is in a very popular hardware store, so there is a lot of foot traffic going by the gun rack.

Saying that, I've had my Savage 45 Super Sporter in 30-30 with receiver peeps up for sale for almost 9 months. It's a very accurate rifle with four locking surfaces on the bolt. It's just not a caliber for everybody now days.

For those looking for 30-30, there are a lot of options. Fewer are looking for a 30-30 bolt because most of the younger crowd has been mesmerized by short magnums of one kind or another, or black rifles and they have not taken the time to read up on things like Hornady LeverEvolution (pointy) bullets being available as factory fodder.

broc ... On a website. I've had it up for about a week. Couple hundred people have looked... One commwnt about it being an interesting notion. Everything else I've posted has sold in 12 hours or less.

I just googled it and got values from $100 to $200. If it was marked Savage or Springfield it would be worth more, but as a hardware store brand it's worth considerably less.

It's like those old Western Field shotguns that Montgomery Ward sold. Even though most were made by Ithaca, they sell for for far less than the identical Ithaca marked shotgun.

At those prices, it might make a great gun to pass on to some young relative as a first deer rifle.

Price on 30-30

Have you considered trading the gun for something else. If you are getting rid of it because you no longer want it you may find someone who would like to trade away something they no longer want. It is a tough sell for all of the reasons stated. However, reloading with pointed bullets can be surprising.

Guns like that are worth "ZERO" to most potential buyers. They simply don't want it at any price. I suspect you could get $250 or so. The problem is finding anyone who wants the rifle. This may be one of those that takes a while to find a buyer for.

It looks a lot like my Dads old Savage 340 (I think) I'd say $200 tops around here. Most folks associate 30/30 with a lever action. Bolts in that caliber are hard to get buyers for. We gave my Dads to one of his grandchildren when he passed.

You would like do better offering it on gunbroker. That way you would let a much larger body of folks know what you have for sale. These are popular in some areas more than others. I would also have to say having the cheap scope on it actually makes the rifle look cheap, I would be tempted to take the scope and mount off and use filler screws on the holes. I would also get some better quality pics taken outdoors in natural light.

A quick look on gunbroker suggests you ar close to the right ballpark on price, sadly you are in the wrong time of year. This type rifle sells best starting about 60 days before deer season opens.

451 - that's a weaver scope... Never heard them called cheap before. It is correct for the time period the gun was manufactured in. Selling it on gunbroker would defeat the purpose of selling it locally... No ffl fees or shipping.

jmr - trust me, I know about how hard it will be to find a buyer.

I'll have to back up what 451 Detonics said - you are selling this at the wrong time of year. You'd be more successful closer to hunting season.

I'll assume you listed this on vaguntrader.com? I've noticed that site seems kind of slow lately. Only tacticool stuff has been moving.

I don't think it would last long in my neck at $250 either. People love 30-30 around here, lots of brush and shots are 100 yard or less most often. Heck, I'd scrape up $250 just so I could give it to my dad lol

Have you tried Arms List? Their site is down right now due to a server error, but I check it everyday for odd balls. http://www.armslist.com/

boomie . Yup. Though I have sold an sks, a rossi m68 in vg condition, and a feg p9r in vg condition in about the last 45 day or so ... All within 12 hours of listing

big green _ just one more reason for you to move to VA ;)

I would love to have it, looks just like my dads savage 30-30.

But I'm nowhere near you and just put new tires on my pickup. So no fun money for a while....

Well gentlemen, ladies, and any other uncategorized sentient beings... :)

Got tired of waiting for someone on VAguntrader. Posted it in the forsale section as here as well. Locals get preference as I don't want to screw with shipping if I don't have to. If you want to pay for shipping, I'm all ears. If you have what I am looking for in trade and your in VA, lets talk.

Wally247, dont know where you are at, but a rifle like this can take several months to get rid of, so I'll PM you when I get rid of it. That way you know if I still have it IF/When you decide you can afford it and want to talk. If you're in VA, I'll drive all the way up to Reston, Sprinfield, etc to get rid of it (I work up there) and as far south as Richmond, out west to Orange county, and east is a non issue cause you can get into that range within a 1/2 hour.

If we were closer to deer hunting season, you'd probably sell it at that price in a heart beat. This time of year everyone seems to be looking to steal a gun (so to speak).

A couple things:

  • Get your pictures right-side-up. I wouldn't buy a gun from a guy who can't even get his pix right.
  • When you advertise it, also put 'Savage 840' in the title. Explain that it is the same gun, and put a link in the ad to a web page that confirms it.

Good luck!
