Amazing that many people still think we use fully automatic weapons

The anti gunners want everyone to believe that people who enjoy the shooting sports all own machine guns and unlimited body armor defeating ammo that we buy at gun shows with no special purchase requirements for 10 bucks a copy and are immature and careless.

People listen to the mainstream liberal media and watch too many movies.

Heck even our own President has said that we can have "assault weapons" shipped to our house from online folks.

FWIW, not all Canadians are clueless about firearms and US gun laws more specifically.

Of course, with majority of Canadians getting their information from the US mainstream media and it's little brother the Canadian mainstream media, it's little wonder than reality is hermetically excluded.

It might intrigue you to learn that there are full-auto firearms lawfully possessed in Canadian civilian hands, but their usage is even more constrained that in US jurisdictions.
They are also "prohibited with grandfathering", meaning only those persons who owned at least one example when the relevant federal legislation was tabled had authorization to possess and acquire same going into the future. Everyone else was excluded. No new imports or production. Essentially what was created was a gov't controlled ton-teen.

There is a gun culture in Canada, but it does operate with more constraints than that of the United States.

I find much of this is explainable and understood by these uneducated gun folks, once you actually take the time to explain it. If they are just jerks who have no idea what they want other than all guns to be gone, then I suggest just walking away whenever possible.
I also find that many people who I run into from other countries, have no idea of how our Country is supposed to function. I am asked many times to please explain our system of Government.
Once I take the time to tell them about the Constitution, and why we are here to begin with, they are usually not resistant to the idea of protecting our freedoms.
We need to remember, "as I am impatient by nature", that unless someone takes the time to dispel all the bullcrap that they have assumed is correct, they begin to change their minds. Especially now with Obama trying to allow people in, who we not just suspect are here to harm us, but in fact are sure of it.
Unfortunately it takes a great deal of time and patience to break through what they have been led to believe. I also found that when you explain that millions have died for these freedoms that are casually thrown around by Politicians who never served anyone but themselves, that they realize that wars have been fought and men and woman have perished to keep these freedoms, that some 19 year old kid decides he doesn't like.
I think that bringing back the Draft would go far in reaching a sense of Nationalism that is sadly lacking in young Americans and those who want to live in a free country, Let them first learn about our Country by serving a few years in the Army, Marines, or one of our other branches of service. That might put a different spin on things, and anyone who doesn't go, can leave our Country. If you aren't willing to fight for it, you shouldn't have it.

I don't know how old you are but from my experience in the service in the 70's the draft just brought in a lot of bitter guys who didn't want to be there.
Those of us that had enlisted were looked upon as fools...

Let's not get off into the weeds about a draft or other compulsory military service. The discussion is about guns...

Guns and their use and benefit to this country should be taught in school. Obviously without some sort of equal power over the forces of evil, we would be a dictatorship, even though they could call it by any name they wished to.
If there is no way to let those in power know that there is a line they better not cross, then how do you maintain the balance of power.
Guns give us that. When I went to Public School, these things were spoken about, and kids knew about guns either from their dad, or their teachers , who were not burned at the stake for discussing them.
It's only when you become ignorant of what something is that you fear it, and the current climate of political bias has contributed in making this a taboo subject, thus creating the fear that many have, for something they just are not educated in anymore. Society should be more inclusive with guns and many other things instead of using fear tactics.
