Great article. I have used a FA 454 for many years so I know it and the 480 will get the job done. Can 45LC be used? It would be a less expensive option for practice and could be used for hunting.
I have one of the Super Blackhawks in .454s as well, and shoot almost nothing but .45 Colt +P loads through it. It has returned spectacular accuracy and it is terminally effective. I shot the top group at 25 yards with Garrett Cartridge's 405 grain load, the top hole is four shots, I pulled the bottom one.
Shot the same load at 50 yards for this five-shot group:
I killed this rather large water buffalo with that same load:
Max P thanks for the reply. I agree the 45LC can take most anything when properly loaded. I miss read your report and have not keep up to date on the 480. I now realize the 480 is a totally different caliber than the 454/45.
